Common Law Marriage
« on: February 18, 2022, 02:34:59 PM »
Are common law marriages recognized in Russia? If a Russian woman and an American man somehow meet the requirements and become legally married according to U.S. common law marriage laws, is that marriage recognized in Russia?

Do 2 Russian citizens ever become legally married in a manner similar to how common law marriage works in the U.S.?

The short answer is no. Having said that a so-called common law marriage that takes place, assuming it is properly registered is accepted in Ukraine & Russia. But the same documents will not work in the United States.

There is a entire thread regarding ZAGS in Russia and the Ukraine variation on RUA.

Search under ZAGS.

Unless you're planning to become common law married in Russia, why does it matter?  ???
