Iceland and the USA have a long friendship and mutual respect.  After all, the United States was the first country to recognize Iceland's independence in 1944 following Danish rule.

(so much for the anti-USA propaganda from the usual suspects)

1, The yanks kept it quiet from the Icelandic populace.
2, They stated that they were only going to up-rate 1 hanger for a P8.
3, They have again imposed themselves onto another country contrary to the populations wishes.

Unhinged narrative or not, fact is that what they have written/reported is actually correct, it is supported by many other links to more mainstream media which I could have quoted, this was only the first one which popped up when googled.

The above, which I originally posted is fact, the US decided on their own backs, to re-deploy their military to a country where they are no longer wanted...  AGAIN.

Tom Cat, worth noting that the event reported in your link was NOT an incursion into Icelandic airspace. I am sure that you are aware of this.

The planes flew into airspace that NATO has decided to monitor, out in the North Sea. In those terms, Russian aircraft would be infringing upon something, somewhere, any time they took off.

I looked and found not one report of any incursion into Icelandic airspace in many years - much as you found.

What was obvious that a story had been put out , a report of a report (ie. a fiction). The wording of the stories in over 30 separate news media was identical and all came out within hours, following wake up times from the USA to Europe.

Notice the weasel words used in the report you linked? Designed so that the readily perplexed people, such as Ant, will think that Russian planes DID fly into Icelandic airspace. The 'reports of reports' worked in the same way.
...everything ends always well; if it’s still bad, then it’s not the end!

I would never want any form of US protection! Especially military and actually If I was in the battle field with some US soldiers the first thing I would do is shoot them through the head to be 100% sure they were dead!!!

Why ? Because I wouldn't fancy being killed in US friendly fire

subs not flights is the reason for the return
discussions /information , even a visit etc , so iceland was hardly unaware it was happening , despite what might be said for public consumption

http://grapevine.is/news/2015/09/10/us-military-possibly-returning-to-iceland/

AMERICA has a treaty with iceland since 1951 making it responsible for their defences , this base has been used unoficially since its closure in 2006
this old story gives some background to the closure
intersting to note the UK , is the only invader of iceland lol

F15s are for air to air combat not air to ground (or subs)
What is worse than not being able to get what you don't even want?

true ,,, that goes without saying  ;D

but the main reason the base is being re activated  would seem to be based around the sub issue, not any  russian flight incursions into sovereign airspace as had been flagged in prior posts

the f15s one would assume is to support the air wing sub hunters
no airforce would deploy large long range sub hunters without air wing fighter support usually

As I wrote, the intention was to put a P8 Poseidon sub hunter on the island (Basically a Boeing 737-700)
