Hi all!
I'm a bit worrying now about this special date of 8 march now  :-[ :

I'm sending mail to a gal since December, quite a good feeling with, and wouldn't like doing some fault here in hurting her feeling

But without address... because the moment was not good etc... So what can I do?

Кто-то, what do you mean by "but without address"?  How have you been sending mail since December then?

Honest Question - why was it 8th of March and not 8th of September - just curious if the actual day itself in the month of march had a particular significance?

Background is most western holidays were either old Pagan holidays that were then adopted for various Christian Saints or events  and or commemorating a particularly significant military victory that saved a nation or group of nations.

Curious if any similar tie it for 8th of March ?

It didn't have anything to do with pagan holidays, I have heard a number of different stories
but don't know exactly how the events unfolded. I wouldn't trust wikipedia on this as it seems
to have been hijacked by feminists on this subject.

Warning Bill explaining the stories that he heard and therefore not necessarily fact !!!!

Warning Bill explaining the stories that he heard and therefore not necessarily fact !!!!

One of the stories that I heard was that women protesting the many wars that had cost them
so many of their sons held a huge protest against it. They caused the powers that were there
to reflect and they called it woman's day. It was co-opted by the Socialists and from that day
forward it was a day to celebrate women. It grew and today is a day for all women. The socialists
communists around the globe still want it to be a call for social justice, but to most in the FSU they
consider it a celebration of women.

That is what I heard, I can't prove it !

So the story I heard has no basis in fact?

So... have you tried at least to ask for her postal address? Sending an 8th of March gift is a good reason

...and what about the phone number, to hear her lovely voice?  :innocent:

If she refuses to disclose that info... maybe it's just not a real girl you're writing to?

I didn't ask because I didn't now when was the good timing. But I would have liked to offer something maybe as a surprise.
But I guess it will be always better than if she receive absolutely nothing (surprise or not)

The good timing? The sooner = the better! And you've been e-mailing since... December?  :o

How can you even be sure it's a REAL girl who's sending your e-mails? Not a guy?

I know I should have asked that before :snivel:... I don't know how to ask that just now before the 8 march

No, she's a girl ;D : we've chatted one time on Skype and she sends me at this moment picture taken just 2 days before

You had a VIDEO chat on Skype?  :D

In any case, ask for the postal address now.

Say it openly - that you would like to send a small gift (or order a flower delivery...) for the 8th of March.

It would not hurt, definitely!

Okay, I will do that so! Too bad for the surprise so but I guess it's better than sending nothing!
No, a normal chat, she doesn't have a webcam.
Which type of gift are usually sent? like Valentine's day? (red roses?)

Which type of gifts? Considering you still can't be 100% sure the girl is REAL...  :8)

I'd opt for something NOT expensive... what about the famous Belgian chocolates in a red heart-shaped box? Hope there are still some left in the supermarkets after Valentine's day?

Just don't send a Manneken Piss figurine  :chuckle:

Most likely not: Russian post is very slow.

problem with customs?

Not with Russian customs, at least - I just checked the list of forbidden goods:

http://www.russianpost.ru/rp/servise/ru/home/postuslug/goodslist

Chocolates are not listed (however meat, sausage, fresh fruits and vegetables are...).

Re. Belgian customs you'd better check yourself...

I must check that

Checking whether the girl is REAL shall be your main priority, IMO.

I didn't say it wasn't popular. It is, more so with people 35 and under I would say. But it wasn't as popular as IWD.

Boris

If i understand you correctly....you favour IWD over VD , you state that VD is more popular with "people under 35", are you suggesting that does not apply to you ???

Thanks! Maybe flower will be easier so since I'm a bit in a hurry now!
If she's a scam, she's a very patient one: discussing since December, and without  request for money, long chat on Skype, answers to my question!
But we will be sure soon enough since I must come to meet her in 4 weeks
PS: It's in Ukraine not Russia

I don't favor either one. IWD is by far the more established holiday. Tania and I were discussing this and she said the older generation really have no interest in VD. We celebrate both.

Hi Mendy

Shall I tell my wife I only 'recognise' 8th March? - [ over St V's day ]

Seriously, do you send her flowers on both days ? ;)
Actually 8 March become very  similar with VD, the only difference is that on VD both (female and male) got some more attention and presents, and on the 8 of march only female got flowers and presents.also on the 8th of March male gives more tulips and other flowers(spring flowers) more as roses and so on.
But honestly I don't count it as women's day, because many FSU women at that day, have to cook a lot, set a table, then wash dishes and whole lot more. So it is a feast??????
Well I changed it for my family, normally I don't do anything on this day, and tell my sons that on 8th of march they should serve themselves and I spend this day, just for myself and the way I wanted! :) ;D

Ok, I have a somewhat daunting situation.

We have over a thousand MySpace friends and one day March the 8th.
For absolutely sure every girl is not going to get a Happy WD post.

There are a couple like Spring girl who will get an original HWD post of
all her own from me but most of the rest will get the same one or three

If someone wants to help I would accept it.

Bill

PS
Would I be committing some kind of horrible unforgivable blunder if I sent them
out a bit early? Sunday here is 8-12 hours behind much of the FSU
