There are a zillion myths out there about the Former Soviet Union, Slavic women,
and various aspect of culture in the FSU. I surely didn't list them all.
The poll is to add interest, but I hope in this thread we can help dispel some of
the more common myths about FSUW.
Sorry in advance for any misspelled words in the poll section since there is
not any spell check for that section. Please note that I am having problems
editing the thread topic and I am not sure why
-
Oh, this will be interesting!
-
Oh, this will be interesting!
Indeed!
Bill, this is one of your best polls yet!
It will go on the home page!
-
Docile and subservient? Please.
Don't care if you stink? Double please.
Great poll Bill. But, I still had to vote that you are a big, tall idiot. ;D ;D ;D
B.
-
Bill
Now did you not forget a few myths.
Russian Women are never jealous
Russian Women are not stubborn
Russian Women will always admit when they are wrong.
Russian Women never get an idea, that could be wrong.
I am sure my dreams later will provide more. ;D
PS Is Linda ready with her delete button, and whip. :chuckle:
-
Great poll Bill. But, I still had to vote that you are a big, tall idiot.
Standing proudly with ya, Boris! :chuckle:
Sorry, Beeeeeel, couldn't resist.
-
No delete button at the ready or whip in hand, I assure you! Instead, I'm ready with my
Actually, DM and I had a conversation some years back in which we discussed this very issue. After he finished laughing (which took a while) I said to him "Nu? Your first wife is from here, what do you think about this?" His response (translated from the Russian) -- "They can have her."
-
Bill you're old enough to remember the mental image all men in the west had of Russian women back in the days of the USSR, before the wall fell. Russian women didn't shave their legs or underarms, had a pronounced mustache over the upper lip and the body of a stevedore, only with bigger muscles.
Please FSUW no :fighting0025: or :fighting0004: or :GRAVE: this was all Bill's idea. I'm just trying to help Manny boost his post count so that the RUA post count will pass the count on the forum that can't be named.

Anyone else remember the Wendy's commercial on TV with the Soviet Fashion show?
"Is next...evenning wear....very nice"
All showing the large babushka in a grey dress.
-
Docile and subservient? Please.
Don't care if you stink? Double please.
Great poll Bill. But, I still had to vote that you are a big, tall idiot. ;D ;D ;D
B.
Yeah, I get that a lot ;D
But I am not even an FSUW
-
Now 22 voters have signed off. All FSUW are docile, subservient, non argumentative creatures has the most votes at 13 so far. 8)
Yet looking at the so few comments made, by all these voters (mainly anonymous) , one can easily conclude, who rules at home. ;D
Linda you may need a larger bowl of  Considering the topic, it seems most stay to safe, and non commitmental posts/
-

I don't know exactly where this myth came from but, anyone who has had an
argument with a FSUW KNOWsit's not the case and will give
more credence to the possibility of the tooth fairy putting money under your pillow.

They have the unique wonderful distinction of being able to be all hot, sexy, soft and romantic one second, and at the drop of a hat reverse course and become colder than liquid nitrogen.

Good poll Bill! But I needed more than 6... ;D
And for the record, Bill is not an idiot, he is our Myspace Guru
-
Good poll Bill! But I needed more than 6... ;D
And for the record, Bill is not an idiot, he is our Myspace Guru
True but if he starts to think that he knows what he's doing he might leave and go work for someone who actually pays, so we've got to try and keep him humble.
-
I decided to vote, since I live in the FSU and am surrounded by FSUW of all ages. I confess that I voted based not only on my own observations of FSUW in their natural environment but also on the reactions of FSUW to the options listed.
(I chose the options that made FSUW laugh the hardest.)
-
Hey, no "View results" link? What is up with that?
-
Hey, no "View results" link? What is up with that?
Usually one must vote to see that. It is a setting the poll creator chooses when making a poll.
-
Darn, I think I'll have to wait until I actually meet any FSUW before I vote! ;D
-
Let me help out............
All FSUW are docile, subservient, non argumentative creatures 17 (14.8%)
All FSUW are great cooks and love to make tasty dishes 7 (6.1%)
All FSUW love to cook and clean 11 (9.6%)

Now 27 voters, and 17 for the same.
Translated - means once they have an idea in their head, the odds of dislodging it becomes, a mission impossible scenario.
Nope my observation was more along the idea if people say these are myths, not much in the way of comments "why" are being made. ;D
-
FSUW live in the third world and will be amazed at your ordinary household appliances 9 (7.8%)
Bummer, does this mean I can't use a photo of my dishwasher to pull FSU chicks?
;D
-
Actually, a dishwasher might work to your benefit. Just don't think they're going to get all excited over that electric hand mixer, okay?
-
(Throws away photo of electric hand mixer).
-

My bet is they would get excited over an electric hand mixer if they saw you
baking / cooking / preparing something with it. (thinking he can cook! )
-
(Pulls photo of electric hand mixer out of the trash).
-
Stubben, if you really want to get a girl's attention, don't worry about the appliances. Just show her a photo of you peeling potatoes. Shirtless is optional. :loving:
-
Is it me or am I seeing this poll from the opposite from you guys. A myth is something that isn't true, hence 17 voting FSUW are docile.etc. means they don't believe the statement.

I suspect that all you need is a Picture of yourself in a beautiful meadow sloping up to some Mountains with a fjordview in the background sporting a big Viking smile! :king:

The votes I choose were votes which were meant to illustrate that I agreed that those particular statements were infact 'myths'. Even though the poll was poorly worded. As a result, I guess that means I need to lodge an official protest to have all 6 of my votes changed to be placed in the "Bill is an idiot what the heck does he know?" box.  :) :P tiphat

It was very poorly worded I agree but if you look at the original post
you can see that I was unable to fix it so I should only get 5 of your votes
for "Bill is an idiot", (besides I voted for myself)
Please note that I am having problems editing the thread topic and I am not sure why

Chris,
What are the Biggest Myths regarding FSUW (Women from the Former Soviet Union)
or
What is the Biggest Myth regarding FSUW (Women from the Former Soviet Union)
are goes with plural, where "is" is singular. I think that since we can vote several times that the first option would be best.
I don't know if FSUW, Slavic, Eastern European is redundant or not. Probably just
one designator is enough. I think we should stay away from using the generic RW
because of all the inter FSU rivalry as of late.
Spasibo,
Bill

I did not see the choice for ALL OF THE ABOVE. Isn't it true there are more myths than truths about FSUW? Part of a marketing strategy by some of the big Internet players?
I am in Dnepropetrovsk now and the weather is fantastic, the ladies are stunning and my tongue is sore from dragging it on the sidewalk. :)

I would have chosen the 'Bill is an idiot' if it would not have been a vote against the truthfullness of that statemnt. :party0031:

well I think you have also in Europe and A.merica a bunch of these as well. ;D

Springirl I've never been to FSU but I have been to a number of countries in Europe and some of the German women, especially back in the 1980's, looked like that.
Yes we have some women in North America who could pass for muscular hairy men. Not really my taste. My ex was a Chinese woman. Tiny with long black hair and other than eyebrows not much hair anywhere else. Rather typical for a Chinese woman.

Like in that Wedy's commercial - "Soviet Fashion Show" from back in the '80's? :o

It ranked right up there with the ad for "Mobil 1" motor oil ( "You can pay me now, OR, you can pay me later.")

If I remember correctly, that was the tag line in commericals for FRAM oil filters. Unless my CRS diease is acting up again (CRS = Can't Remember Sh.., er, Stuff)
-
Much of the advertising incoperated by many international marriage agency's is designed to encourage fantastical notions upon their clients WM.....
Most FSU ladies do not want to leave their country and have no real interest in marrying a foreigner.
FSU ladies are not falling over themselves to snag a much older guy, you can be successful in your FSUW pursuit if you are much older than the lady, but of course you will be the exception to the norm.
If your in anyway not up to it, don't bother because they will

Wendy's Commercial (and secretly a bump)

I think that they are industry / media myths which is why they were voted for.

I referred a few FSUW to this page to vote.
Not sure how many did

I was going to vote until I realized that I filled in too many boxes. Why wasn't there an "all of the above apply"?

You missed the biggest myth: That FSU women hate their home country so much, conditions there are so terrible, that they'll do anything to get out.
If you want to move to the FSU, you'll have more women than you know what to do with.

Whats funny is, when telling a friend or family member, at least one or two of these come up :dh:
Although I showed one friend a picture of my lady, he asked when you going again, I want to go.
I had to remind him he was married and he didn't seem at all concerned about the myths anymore :chuckle:

It's been a while since anyone has talked about myths in the FSU.
-
I'm somewhat apprehensive to open my mouth at all here (in fear of exhibiting my ignorance), but I'll take a stab at it or I'll never learn. Is it myth or fact that many FSU homes don't have laundry rooms? I've seen many photographs of kitchens that have a miniature washing machine right next to the stove / sink / whatever (and usually no dryer?). Is this just for hand towels and whatnot or is everything laundered in the kitchen?
I should make known that I can fully appreciate (and embrace) cultural differences; when we vacation in Canada, we buy our fuel in 'litres' and milk comes in bags! And get this: now their money is made of indestructible plastic sheets (superior to our paper notes, I'm afraid). Speaking of laundry and money, I can't count the number of times I've run some petty bills through the ole wash cycle. :money: ;D

Ah, I didn't think about that. Ours run on electricity (I suppose because electricity is cheap here) but we do have natural gas taps in both laundry rooms. I've always wondered what a natural gas dryer looks like / how it operates... you'd think that such a unit would just scream 'fire hazard' to the insurance companies but apparently they're fairly safe to use (?).

What do you mean, “did not belong to Angel Eyes”?
I Googled "sexy panties hanging on a clothes line" and posted
a photo that wasn't owned by Getty, or somebody that might ask for
a license fee.
I could have done a search like this
sexy panties hanging on a clothesline stock keyword -stock -site:123rf.* -site:istockphoto.* -site:shutterstock.* -site:gettyimages.*
That would have eliminated most of the watermarked stock photos,
but I did it the first way.

a photo that wasn't owned by Getty, or somebody that might ask for
a license fee.
I could have done a search like this
sexy panties hanging on a clothesline stock keyword -stock -site:123rf.* -site:istockphoto.* -site:shutterstock.* -site:gettyimages.*
That would have eliminated most of the watermarked stock photos,
but I did it the first way.
Bill, is 'Angel Eyes' your FSU partner? Sorry man, I'm still stumbling around in the dark on here.

Skip to page 8 because the first pages are photos from photobucket
which wants $400 per year for me to hotlink them here.

For a moment there, I thought someone could be a cross dresser. :chuckle: (:)
BTW, I have a clothesline outside on the deck as well as an electric dryer. The dryer is used when I need to get stuff dried quickly. Otherwise, I hang the stuff outside (unless it freezing outside).
-
A gas drier looks like an electric one. The sole difference is the source of heat. If you open an electric drier you will probably be surprised by the way it works and wonder about safety.
I think that you'd be surprised to see just how many people over here use tumble driers or combination machines. Of course most readers here would be unable to recognise a washer/drier if for no other reason than inability to read.
In my home we have a tumble dryer but more commonly we just dry out a load on a rack, overnight, using the heat from the underfloor heating.
-
Both gas and electric clothes dryers have safety issues.
As is noted drying clothes by air is safer, more ecologically friendly, plus you clothes smell better (in my opinion).

Clothes smell better if you don't cook up a pound of bacon while
they are on the rack/clothesline.

I suppose it's logical that a gas dryer would look the same as an electric unit, but honestly, I've never seen one before! As to a line, we do have one set up in the back yard, but our often-inclement weather prohibits its use most of the year. It's also a fun chore to run out and collect all of the clothes right as the rain starts to hit! Practically speaking, we use a dryer for almost all clothes (with the exception of those articles that can't be heat-dried, of course).
Hey, underfloor heating is nice! And using a rack (indoors) you're also adding some humidity to the air (which in winter can be a real treat).
After doing some research, I've found a logical explanation as to washing machines in the kitchen: dwellings built before washing machines were common weren't plumbed (supply and drain) for such a unit (in its own cavity like a laundry room), so it's practical to place it in the kitchen where water supply and drainage already exist.

I guess on of the biggest myths is they are all DESPERATE to marry any guy....Well to escape the terrible life under a dictator..
But actually it is the other way round kind of as you can see here:

Quick Bump - crikey my initial posts here were back in 2009 how time flies...

It was a long time ago, but many of the myths still persist
