Title: Picture thread etiquette
Post by: Paul on May 27, 2009, 12:02:21 AM
Believe it or not, I spend more time on photography forums than I do on RUA (I find time  :chuckle: ), and I have learnt a few things by observing how people post on them. Below are a few things that are just not cool to do when someone wants to share their pictures:

If someone post pictures, most times it is different than if they had just started a thread asking a question, or sharing an experience. Do not add your own photos to someones "picture thread" without asking the OP if it is okay to do so first,.. just don't ask or do it period, it is very rude and takes away from what the OP wanted to share (don't ask because it is hard for people to tell others that it is no okay to post pictures in their thread, even when they do not want it done).

I'm guilty of doing this one: Do not offer criticism, no matter how much you might want to help someone improve their pictures, or picture taking abilities, if they have not asked for help to begin with. For some strange reason, people get their feelings hurt very easily when their pictures are being criticized even with good intentions. If you want to help someone, be very careful with how you ask them if they would like help.

And, if someone ask for other people to post their pictures of [fill in whatever], do not go and posts pictures of something completely unrelated, start a different thread instead.

Those are just a couple of things that I wish people could remember. Getting off of my soapbox now  :innocent:

I'm uneducated pictures poster. Sometimes i have a picture to share but think it is lame to post just one picture. That is why I've done it. Didn't know it would create such a furor.
