So beautiful, so diverse, so inspiring... It's been my desire too to visit India, and now, thanks to you, dear Orchid, it's at least partially satisfied. We are all children of propaganda of our respective times, whether we are aware of it or not. When i was growing up, in a kinder and more idealistic world, my then-country used to be part of "Non-Aligned Movement", alongside India. Our then omnipotent leader, Tito, was fascinated with India. So, we grew up watching Indian movies. We were always given example of how powerful and dignified was Gandhi. Then we all read Autobiography of a Yogi, Krishnamurti's books, Osho's books... Most of us practiced Yoga. As teens we were studying carefully Kama Sutra, it was the only "sexual education" available to us.  :innocent: I remember to this day that at the time ( i think i was 15) i had decided lovemaking was not for us, common people, because 1. it said explicitly the teacher should be present during "execution" of some poses, and i knew those teachers were not available in our parts  :snivel: 2. before engaging in lovemaking, a woman had to teach a parrot to speak. I had bought a parrot, but despite my efforts, it never uttered a single word  :hidechair:
Most of my friends who traveled to India posted either pictures of extreme poverty  or 1001 selfie from some godforsaken ashram. None of those had sparked all these fondest memories i have from a time that had long gone by. Yours did, dear Orchid. Thank you for that.

:-X You know i collect cards  ;) One of my latest acquisitions was Lo Scarabeo's Kama Sutra playing cards  :innocent:

p.s. i am still at loss about the teacher and the parrot parts  ???  ;D ;D ;D

But, back to being serious... Among my Indian loves, i forgot to mention Rabindranath Tagore. Except the Russians and William Blake, he's the only poet i am forever madly in love with...

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high
Where knowledge is free
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments
By narrow domestic walls
Where words come out from the depth of truth
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way
Into the dreary desert sand of dead habit
Where the mind is led forward by thee
Into ever-widening thought and action
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake

Where The Mind Is Without Fear by Rabindranath Tagore

Time is endless in thy hands, my lord.
There is none to count thy minutes.

Days and nights pass and ages bloom and fade like flowers.
Thou knowest how to wait.

Thy centuries follow each other perfecting a small wild flower.

We have no time to lose,
and having no time we must scramble for a chance.
We are too poor to be late.

And thus it is that time goes by
while I give it to every querulous man who claims it,
and thine altar is empty of all offerings to the last.

At the end of the day I hasten in fear lest thy gate be shut;
but I find that yet there is time.

Endless Time by Rabindranath Tagore

You won't really find Blake's angels hanging out on the trees in modern UK, or the Njegos' mountain wreath in contemporary Monte, but that doesn't stop us from admiring the best of world's poetics and peaks of human thought :GRRRR:

(Btw, Kama Sutra is an obligatory read in the 1st year if you are doing BA in World Literature  ;)   :KISSSS:)

I know that too. They are conservative in a good way. I have many real life Indian friends, two of them among besties. You can't cast a shadow on my admiration of all things Indian  ;D
p.s. There was a study that Indians are the most faithful spouses. (If i try hard, i can even link to it.) Being a traditional Balkan person (more so Jewish), how could one possibly not LOVE that?!

The first time, we honeymooned on an islan in the Andaman Sea.

We have walked on the beaches of Goa and strolled through the streets of Calcutta amongst other things.
I have trekked in the Himalayas and seen Everest at dawn.

Does that apply to our very own Orchid, given her fascination with the Kama Sutra?

Most of my friends who traveled to India posted either pictures of extreme poverty  or 1001 selfie from some godforsaken ashram.

I was fed up with people taking selfies.
Visit to India has changed and healed me in many ways.
One guide in Mumbai gave me a picture of his kids.
India has it's own way in everything, including selfies.
They do not irritate me anymore.
I hope you will smile....

The first time, we honeymooned on an islan in the Andaman Sea.
We have seen the Taj Mahal at sunrise.
We have walked on the beaches of Goa and strolled through the streets of Calcutta amongst other things.
I have trekked in the Himalayas and seen Everest at dawn.
Next year we are moving to India to live.

From reading the interesting posts of our Dogsoldier, I suspect that he is originally from India.
Does that apply to our very own Orchid, given her fascination with the Kama Sutra?

Is Orchid a Thai woman from Thailand? In my experience they're the most exotic and most capable of fulfilling any type of Kama Sutra fantasy.

Have you ever been a beautiful woman with white skin in modern India, Soldier?

We have seen the Taj Mahal at sunrise.

Next pictures are to remind to Mr. DS and his beautiful wife about very special time in a very special place.
Pictures are very weak illustration why it is special.
To know that you must be there.
People travel from all over the world to bring their love to Taj Mahal.
You can see it in their eyes and how couples hold each other....
Once you step on those stones, you will never be able cut the ties to this place.

The Taj Mahal was built in 1632 by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan to honor his wife Mumtaz Mahal.
By the way, as usual in India, astrologist said to him where he can find her.
She died giving birth to their 14th child.

Cross the Yamuna River he wanted to build a mausoleum for himself.

(https://s4.postimg.org/6je59qir1/UNADJUSTEDRAW_thumb_9d66.jpg) (https://postimg.org/image/4rl6etze1/)

It should be an exact copy of Taj Mahal but in black marble. He was able to finish only foundation.

He was able to finish a foundation only because he was imprisoned by his third son Aurangzeb in Fort Agra .

For the last EIGHT years of his life he could see his masterpiece only from afar.

Only after his death his son was kind enough to place his parents next to each other.

Yes, it was the exact reason for Shah Jahan's imprisonment: to prevent the country from bankruptcy.

I knew clasno, kruto, klevo and otpad from chatting with FSUW back when
I was single. Then I was on a chat with many, many FSUW on it when I
posted those four. Then several others joined in and soon I had a huge
list of words for cool. I have been led to understand that otpad is a little
bit old school, like groovy or far out.

I didn't use a dictionary, but I did have a lot of help.

I had the honor to attend Pushkin Institute while Natalya Ivanovna Formanovskaya (https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Формановская,_Наталья_Ивановна ) was still teaching there. She was in her 90ies, lucid, real genius, her hair always done, always dressed like a lady, with make up and wearing high heels... That was only an addition to her being one of the most outstanding contemporary Russian linguists. If you'd (on purpose of course) said something like: the lecture was superskaya or similar, she'd place her arm on her heart , roll eyes and pretend she's just about to faint. Это при мне так разговаривают?! :snivel:
I hardly ever use slang words in Russian, but it took me a lot of work to stop talking "Shatrovacki/ Šatrovački", jargon that's spoken in Belgrade
Before mobiles, you had to speak on the landline in front of your parents. So, a language was developed that they don't understand. (Originally, it was invented by criminals, so the police can't understand them.) It took me years to get rid of its' traces  ;D

Back to India now, as we are derailing the thread  ;D

I wish every man would bring a woman that he loves to this place.
Eight years of Shah Jahan's loneliness and isolation have created a cosmos that attracts man's love.
And it is never enough...
It's a good idea to give her a present, so she would remember this special time.
The best present would be local jewelries.
For example blue topaz that I brought back to the US. My favorite!!!

(https://s11.postimg.org/728tlgaf7/DSC_0013.jpg) (https://postimg.org/image/viqzfxb5r/)

When you leave Taj Mahal, and she does not expect anything else, give her another piece like this exquisite necklace with turquoise on fabric.

(https://s13.postimg.org/e7ysbou93/DSC_0022.jpg) (https://postimg.org/image/fa8yu8d2b/)

.....or something simple like this white opal

I wish every woman would see the Taj Mahal at sunrise.
Wear your best dress and be prepared for barefoot modeling on a white marble.
Then you can go together to chose local perfume oil.
It is totally different from regular perfume.
Just one drop of this oil goes deep into skin and stays long.
It looks like this:

(https://s3.postimg.org/77f9g0bc3/DSC_0048.jpg) (https://postimg.org/image/40kpwdqvz/)

Then it would be nice to refresh with juice that is made in your presence.
My favorite was watermelon and grapes.
After visiting India, I do not eat watermelon... I drink it.

(https://s21.postimg.org/d3jijwmyf/DSC_0053.jpg) (https://postimg.org/image/vvvdnhjcj/)

And after long day, you can invest the rest of your energy into Kama Sutra in warm and tender night of Colonial India.....

Title: India. Goa.
Post by: Orchid on July 14, 2017, 11:35:12 PM
Goa is flooded with Russians.... Even menus at restaurants are in Russian.
Many local people speak a little Russian.

At the end of this year I am going back to India.
Yes, I am choosing Goa. Luxury beaches!!!
It will be two months of solitude.
Jogging on beach at sunrise, meditation at sunset, and studying, studying, studying in between.......

Thank you.
The most difficult is to chose pictures to post. I have thousands of them.....
I look at my pictures, dive in my memory, and it takes hours to make a post.

I am going to Las Vegas in the morning.
This thread will wait until I am back.
India is so exotic, diverse, and fascinated country!!!
Whatever you say about it is never enough.

Love you, Volshe!  :)

I am going to Las Vegas in the morning.

It's supposed to be 113F which is approx 45C in Las Vegas today.
Hopefully you stay cool, and stay wet. It's a dry heat sort of like
putting your head in an oven then stuffing a hair dryer in your
mouth, but our Orchid is an adventurer and will be fine.

She just needs to remember to wear sunglasses to protect her eyes
from the hazards of umbrella drinks.

Schastlivogo puti!

Our friend has sold his house there.
We are going to help him packing. He is an old gentleman.
There is a water pool. I will swim if I am too hot.
Mid July is the worst time to go to Las Vegas if you are a tourist.
But I am planning to live there..... Heat will be a part of my life.

Still will do something at night.
There is always something going on in Vegas.

I always spend some time at the Venetian when I am in Las Vegas.
Love it's spirit and interiors, but it is still nothing to compare to real Venice, one of my favorite places in this world...

That's how we reason!  ;D A gondola/ narrow canoe, is used commonly as transportation on our Lake Skadar. It's usually an older lady and a goat or a dog on it, or the lady taking cheese she made to the market on the other shore... An average Montenegrin guy 2m high and of some 110-120 kg, getting into the gondola, more so together with his beloved... Not really... (At least i've never seen a scene like that!)  ;D

Believe or not, but it was raining in Vegas....

I believe it only because you've said it. It rarely rains there in the summer time
and it always caused flash floods. If you see water flowing across a road, never
drive over it, so many people have lost their lives in flash floods.

My parents live 207 miles (333km) South of Las Vegas. I lived there as a kid
but was very happy to leave.

Hmm..... good to know.
Yes, driving is special in the US. Sometimes you feel very strong connection to God...
I remember I have leaned the first time that my husband is catholic when we caught black ice.

My hospital is on a hill. One time my jaguar could not reach the top of that hill.
I was sliding down the hill against all those cars with hospital employees at the beginning of work day.
All I could was to pray. I still remember that prayer...

May I ask you why?

Las Vegas became more expensive.
The first time I saw paid parking. It was at MGM.
Shows and buffets are more expensive.
No sales at stores.

There were so many British!!! Why do they come in summer?
The weather in winter is so good!!!

There isn't much 207 miles South of Las Vegas. There weren't many jobs there
especially when I left. Now the largest employer in the area is one of the prisons
there. The prison population far exceeds the non prison population.

Together with desert landscape and unbearable heat sounds awful.
Completely opposite to what people experience in Las Vegas

She was very close, but she did not pay any attention to me. She was looking at sea.
She has a plastic bag in her hand. What was in that bag?
