For who?

Everyone except members of the 5 eyes countries that includes the Brits.. All the EU can now visit with just a e-visa and registrations for foreigners is being dropped..

Looks like lots of new changes on the way..  not sure it will happen for the UK though..((

Looking at the list of eligible countries >here< (https://evisa.kdmid.ru/en-US/Home/Index?fbclid=IwAR2_TkiY8iSmzwCqcoQv26gh1Rv8cPFWRxBpLelJ7yF279IsGbmkNYP-GQ8), it seems those from the DPRK (who can't travel freely) and people from places such as Iran can use it, but Brits and those from the good old US of A can't.

Only certain regions:

Quote
Far Eastern Federal District, Kaliningrad Oblast, Saint‑Petersburg and Leningrad Oblast.

Eight days validity:

Quote
The permitted stay in the Russian Federation with an e-visa is up to 8 days starting from the date of entry, within its validity period

It's a start though. And exactly the type of programme that I once lobbied the Russian ambassador in London to implement (http://ruadventures.com/forum/index.php/topic,24478.msg411316.html#msg411316). Sadly it doesn't yet seem to cover Brits or the KUF Samara airport that I'd use. He did say it might be slow....

RU could learn a thing on tourism from UA but that's a different topic.

In some ways, yes. I don't think they are ready to open the floodgates and let everyone in as UA does. One reason UA has the sex tourist trade and Russia doesn't is visa-free travel. There is no reason to encourage all that. But a better class of visa for those with family, ties and or a decent reason to go and/or a history of visits can only be an idea they will gain from.

But tourism is something else. Arrive by boat to Russia and you are good for 3 days. If they want to encourage tourism to Sochi and Crimea, they need to think about the tourism aspect too. But how to do that without letting in those they don't really want there?

I'll give some more background on this without going into too much detail: An opportunity has presented itself whereby I can get a coherent report with sensible ideas [that I will write] on the subject up to the top table. That opportunity doesn't come along too often, so if anyone has any input on the subject, please speak up.

It is only 8 days for the pilot scheme in St Petersburg.. in jan 2021 when it is rolled out across Russia it will be 39 day stay I think or some thing like that..and no registration as far as I know..

I guess after all those extra visitors lots more will want to relocate to Russia.. and why not easily done , set yourself up in business as self employed under the simplified tax system and your ready to go...

Too bad about that hotel reservation, m,mmmmm maybe we can start a bed & breakfast at babushkas.

5th floor, no shower or elevators. Stairs only.

That ought to help slow down people trying to book her room.

The Brits without an EU passport, US and Candians seem to be excluded.

Manny will no doubt tell us that his chats with the RU Ambassador for the UK will be fruitful.

Perhaps you will get honorary RU citizenship...?

And charge 300 euros per night, that should do it.

Much as I love parts of Piter, I have a feeling you're going to find your optimism is misplaced ((

You can be sure I'll be there.. in person.. to check out more delights ...but there won't be so many tourists as you ( or the Kremlin) hope for....

But I don't care if there is 945,000 or 45,000 or 798,000 .. Im just saying there WILL be MORE. Nothing to argue about unless you want to nail it down to the exact amount and post some graphs..

Russia to Offer Simplified E-Visas
to 53 Countries, Snubs U.S. Canada and Britain

Citizens of 53 countries will be able to apply for free and simplified electronic visas to visit Russia starting next year, a senior official has said in an interview published Thursday.

The 16-day e-visas will go into effect Jan. 1, 2021, for citizens of the European Union and different countries in Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Latin America.

U.S., British and Canadian passport holders are not yet eligible for Russia’s free e-visas due to geopolitical friction, Deputy Foreign Minister Yevgeny Ivanov told the Kommersant business daily. He pointed to cases of Russian diplomats waiting up to two years to get visas to the U.S. as a particular grievance.

“The decision to include a particular country in the list was made taking into account a number of factors, including their visa policy toward Russian citizens,” Ivanov was quoted as saying.

Russia to Offer Simplified E-Visas to 53 Countries, Snubs U.S. and Britain (https://www.themoscowtimes.com/2020/02/06/russia-to-offer-simplified-e-visas-to-53-countries-snubs-us-and-britain-a69193)

My view:

The 16-day e-visas will go into effect Jan. 1, 2021

Another crap decision......

I cannot find the link or article anywhere now but Im sure I read it some where  :o

Steve, I also recently read in the Russian media.  Since the time of the sanctions, the EU has been dreaming of visa-free travel to Russia.  It would be easier for us. :-*
