Title: 'Normal People' on BBC and Hulu
Post by: msmoby on May 22, 2020, 09:05:28 AM
I came across this series in the UK, but see it's on HULU across the pond.

This review had me laughing and it might inspire you to watch it

"Recently, a woman named Mary called into the popular Irish radio show “Liveline” with a complaint about “Normal People,” the television adaptation of Sally Rooney’s 2018 novel by the same name, now airing on Hulu and BBC 3. “I imagine it was like something you’d expect to see in a porno movie, certainly not for family viewing,”   "

OK, it has 40 plus 'steamyish' scenes and *I* think the acting is brilliant, plus I adore Ireland's NW coastline and Trinity College, Dublin and had many great childhood memories of Sligo and Donegal, before the troubles.  Their journey takes us to Sweden and Italy.

It's slow and deep and the main characters may make you want to stand up and 'shake them into their senses', but for me.. it's been THE best TV viewing during this lockdown and V ( my ex-wife ) could be Marianne in so many ways ...Looks and expecting her fella to know what she was thinking ..

Watching this helps me understand why so many gifted people cannot cope with the simplest of social skills ...

I hope I provoked you enough to watch it

Seems a bit too white and straight for the BBC. One of the characters must be transgender or summit?  :chuckle:

So, you've not watched it yet, Rosco  :chuckle:

In the meantime it's broken iplayer download records and possibly ensured BBC Three is back on on ( not just iplayer )

??

Why?  Are you sensitive about watching a couple make just about ALL the mistakes one can make in a relationship or does the idea of the heterosexual sex scenes 'offend' you ..    ( I am joking)

We started watching it again, all seemed well until episode nine when the lead woman is suddenly [literally on screen] shagging a black bloke in Sweden out of the blue (within moments of the start - to be sure you see it without warning or build up - the BBC propaganda way). For no particular reason. It doesn't even gel with the storyline.

To add the pretence of balance, moments later, the lead man suddenly found himself an ugly Asiatic Chinesey bird (the good looking ones were busy, obvs). No shagging there naturally - they held hands.

Classic BBC box ticking bollox.  :-\

Wifey is still watching it. I expect a lesbian amputee - born and bred in Sligo - wearing a feather boa will be along shortly........

It started out interesting and believable. Now it's about as believable as one of Moby's expert witness imaginary friends.

Moby will be along soon to tell us the Guardian gave it rave reviews.

Sad news, I was hoping to hear about an onanistic cross dressing clown with cultural identity issues who has a hard time with honesty.

Manny clearly fell asleep at the end of the episode as Marianne had hooked up with the Swedish photographer... The story line was perfectly clear. The fact that he was a Swede of mixed race more likely 'offended' you..

This makes your rant akin to a drunken TV critic who publishes a review and clearly misses the key moment while at the bar or asleep))

BTW, I simply found it on BBC iplayer, but it got this review from....The 'Torygraph'.

In her five-star review, The Daily Telegraph's Anita Singh described the series - made up of 12 half-hour episodes - as "a rare treat, the TV drama that's better than the book".

The 'Chinesy' looking bird is of a French/ Vietnamese actress ma and a IRL/UK tv/ film star, Ciaran Hinds..of Game of Thrones, Harry Potter fame..

Here's how she looks, now..

The lead guy found himself with 'Helen' for four episodes and there is a very passionate scene were they made love while she is on top..

Manny had clearly given up, by then))

I only watched the final episode last night and found the ending more akin to leaving the story ready for a second series with New York featuring?
