Best days to travel?

(1/2) > >>

desenchantee:
Hi all, I am looking at going back to Lvov in October/November and am very flexible on days of travel. What are normally the best days of departure and arrival?

Thanks
Jon

Tuesday through Thursday are the slowest days of the week. Therefore they will be the cheapest. I only search these days. Also I leave and return on the same day of the week. This makes sense because some airlines, like Aeroflot, only fly in and out of certain cities on certain days of the week. If you are really flexable then search and search. There are times when I think I found the absolute best price, then my wife will do a quick search and find something better.    Lee

On a related question, how long in advance should you book tickets to get the best price?

I have twice done it now just about a month before travelling.  The searches result in both low and high priced tickets.  When I check nearer my departure time, only the high priced tickets are still available.

For instance my ticket from MSP to MRV via SVO cost me $1700 a month ago.   Now the only tickets are around $2400 -- twice as much.  There were $2400 tickets back then, too.  So it seems there are a set number of low priced fares that will eventually be used up.

During the summer you really need to book as far in advance as possable. In the off season it is not so important.  In April my wife needed to make an emergency trip to Russia. We booked her flight on Saturday April 14. Travel date was the next day. The cost was only $1100.00.  This was for a Sunday flight on one days notice.   Lee

I am like kleeb I try to only fly Tuesday through Thursday and I am always flexible.              My best price was in November and I went from PBI in Florida to JFK in NY to Moscow and back ( ROUND TRIP ) $340.00 on Delta.  ;D
Other flights have been $600.00 , $800.00 and my most expensive one was $1000.00 at Christmas. Their are some other tricks I use to keep the price low. ;D
