Sharing some of my pics
« on: November 26, 2008, 06:28:32 PM »
Was going through some old pics that I took, while "cleaning" my computer. This first batch are some that I won various contest with (no big deal, really). They were all taken with a Canon 30D and Canon 300mm 4/f IS USM lens.

White-breasted nuthatch

Northern-flicker

Woodchuck

Pair of water snakes

Yellow-bellied sap-sucker

Some kind of "hopper"

And the moon  ;D This pic was taken with a 2X teleconverter attatched to my lens

Those are all of my "winners," thanks for looking  :)

Wowww DD  :o

Please keep posting your pictures, I really enjoyed your last thread when you were doing this.

I only wish that even in this modern age I could take professional photographs like this.

Paul I like the photos.  The first photo of the white-breasted nuthatch is great.  Very good detail.
andrewfi says ''Proximity is almost no guarantee of authority" and "in many cases, distance gives a better picture with less emotional and subjective input."

That means I'm a subject matter expert on all things Russia, Ukraine and UK.

Thank you Markje and Mirror.

A few more pics. Didn't win anything with these (lol), but they are some of my personal favorites for different reasons.

Hooded Mergansers

Chipmunk

Squirrel

Dark-eyed Junco (it is very hard to get an exposure like with a bird that is both black and white).

Some turtles

Canada geese

Solitary Sandpiper (maybe, this type of bird is hard to ID)

Great Blue Heron

Mallard (I got very lucky with this shot, it has not been cropped)

Ring-billed gulls on a frozen section of Lake Ontario

Thanks for looking (again)

Thank you MrMann. A Curlew would be vary rare in my area, so I ruled it out (still possible though). Unfortunately, the birds position makes a 100% ID, impossible.

 D-D,

Nataly likes your photo's very much. It's also a kind of hobby for her, but we don't have a good camera. She took this using my 4 year old Olympus Stylus camera while we were in Colorado this summer.

She has tons of mushroom and flower pics on her computer that she took in Ukraine. We both love photography, maybe someday we will get a real camera.  :)

Photography is always something which I am sorry I never studied. I take 35-40 pictures, and only one turns out great.  :(

DD - you are very talented in this area.

I totally agree with you Manny, I to have this problem (even in the age of digital photography) my camera still has no idea of what to shoot and how. (or as I am becoming more aware of it must be the fault of the operator)   :rolleye0009:

DD you are extremely talented and please continue to post your pictures, it give me something, or a standard to aim for  ::)

Thanks Manny and Sparky114,

I've taken thousands of pictures, and these are just some of the few that think are decent enough to share here. I would say that 80% of the pictures I take go straight to the recycle bin.

Awesome Photos. I admire your talent because i could never take pics like you do. I (*I have some fine motor tremors*) can't seem to get a 'steady shot'. Great job!

D_D   Nice pix .

Several years ago I was out canoeing near the cottage, when I spotted a squirrel out over the water on a fallen tree. It was odd,and they it jumped into the water !  Very rare to see, what was even more bizzare is that the little guy was swimming towards me,and than hit my canoe.  Looking at it I noticed it had no eyes, only the fur covering where the eyes should of been.

So being the kind,gentle,compassionte,sensitive... you getting all this Manny ?   I scooped the animal up on my paddle and placed it in the canoe. I later took it to a rehab hospital where I thought it could live out a sheltered life.  I was thinking of keeping it as a pet,but thought someone else  could care better for it. So upon me signing little Stevie Wonder over to the place, I left and I heard a call from a bird of prey ! :o
I asked your not going to use it as bait are you ?  She just raised her eyebrows. I have never been back  :(

Thank you ECR844,

With most newer digital cameras, you can take pictures in the manual mode. If you can learn how to adjust the cameras aperture, ISO speed, and shutter speed, you can make up for some of the unsteadiness. If you do not want to take the time to learn how to shoot in manual mode, you can always get a tripod from Wally World  :)
