Stirlitz, you need a haircut. You are beginning to look like a long haired hippie. If you like, I can send you some Grateful Dead and Led Zeppelin albums.

Just kidding.

I think Stirrly looks good with the long hair.  Back years ago I too had long hair, but when it started to thin out, I had to take it off :(   the Bon Jovi daze were over and, Hello to the Saprano's !  :chuckle:
BTW I don't think Stirrly is an idiot, I just never cared for someone who doesn't answer some simply questions, than attacks me via PM's. Didn't really make much sense to me.

Maybe.

But Julie needs to work on her waist. It’s too big.

Then you are wrong as I have a very thin waist in my hands every day.

Or maybe you are right as I don’t dream about what I already have.

Interesting but possibly definitional.  In one sense you'd expect half the population to be "overweight" depending on if "overweight" is calibrated by the average weight.

I mean what *is* the "normal" weight of a person.  How would we know this.  Under what measurement standards?

People with BMIs of 25-29.9 are considered to be overweight. The 50th percentile curve on the chart is technically not the same as average, but it is close enough to make the point.

For a 170 cm girl to have a BMI 0f 25, she would have to weigh 72.2 kg. If she had 25% body fat (I am being charitable.), then that would account for 18 kg of her total weight.

People with BMIs of 18.5-24.9 are considered to be normal.

For a 170 cm girl to have a BMI 18.5, she would have to weigh 53.5 kg. It is unlikely that a girl of this weight would carry 25% body fat; 15% would be more realistic, accounting for 8 kg of her total weight.

Do you think that you could see the difference?

That being said, the whole concept of BMI falls apart with people who are athletic.

I never liked BMI.  It does not take into consideration the natural difference in muscle mass between men and women.  At 185cm and 200lbs, I am considered overweight, even though I exercise regularly and certainly do not carry a gut.  Yet a woman that is 165cm can weigh up to 150 lbs and be considered within her proper weight.  Unless she is carrying a much greater muscle mass than the average woman, she will easily flow over the sides of a pair of jeans and jiggle readily (certainly not in the areas that I have desire to see jiggle) as she walks down the street. :scared0005:

The women at that BBQ were exceeding the BMI weight standards also (25), although not by as much weight as I would identify.

One thing about that womens BMI chart.  It is over 14 years old.  the current thought about Americans is that 66% are overweight http://www.bariatric-surgery.info/obesity-levels-usa.htm.  By the BMI standard, that would shift the numbers of that chart considerably. :fighting0004:

At a BMI of 26.3, I would put myself up against any woman with a 24.9 with regard to health and fitness.

What is BMI?

Body mass index. Its a rough calculation if you are overweight. This however is a very bad scale because if you are in very good shape (lots of muscles) it will tell you you are obese when you are not.

Btw, according to this website I am : 32nd percentile, this means that 68% of all American men of your age are more obese than you!

What is BMI?

It is a measure of how an individual's weight compares to an arbitrary standard with a built-in correction for various heights.

BMI = weight in kg divided by (height in m)2

The weakness of the system is that it is only meaningful for people with average percentages of body fat. Those individuals with higher than normal amounts of lean muscle mass would get false positive results for being overweight.

BMI = weight in kg divided by (height in m)2

That means for me...

a) 1.58 x 1.58 = 2.4964

b) 50 / 2.4964 = 20.0288?

Is that supposed to be OK?

I thought the ideal weight is height (in cm) - 100; so I shall aim to 48 kilos?
