Server & Site Speed Problems
Manny:
Many of you recently will have been receiving this message occasionally:

Sorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database. This may be caused by the server being busy. Please try again later.

This is because we are out growing our existing hosting package, and also because the hosts we are with do not seem up to the mark generally.
I am talking to a potential new host for RUA at the moment and will update you as and when I am 100% they can accomodate all our needs and have made a migration plan with them.
Manny:
So we have found a new host. :-*
The facility we now have arranged is far in excess of what we actually need, but I hope we will grow into it. :)
We have the account already and the techs are poking around in there doing some preparation over the next day or two. For the past few days they have been technically preparing us for the move. We hope to complete the migration sometime at the end of the week or over the weekend.
As most of our traffic is from the USA, we intend to do it while most of the USA is asleep to minimise site disruption. This will mean the site is down for a few hours, but hopefully, most of you wont notice.
Following the migration, the various servers around the world can take 24 hours or so to catch up properly, but from past experience, the site should be usable and most functions should work again for most people within a few hours, all being well.
I will be switching the lesser used www.rwadventures.com over as soon as we begin, and when I can see it working properly I will follow up with www.ruadventures.com an hour or two later, so if you have problems with one domain, use the other during transition.
See you all on the other side. :scared0005:

Umm Manny, domain transfers take upto 12 hours to complete around the world.... :-* Better start friday-evening with the first.
Manny:
The domains are already independant and not with our host company, I only need change the name pointers to the new host. I know it can take 12 hours or so, but last time I did this it was very fast.
Switching www.rwadventures.com over earlier may not be a bad plan to ensure minimal disruption.
Manny:
The site switch over will be early tomorrow morning in Europe and during the night tonight in the USA.
If you have problems tomorrow with www.ruadventures.com use www.rwadventures.com please until the switch over is stable and all the servers around the world have updated.
We will be off air for a while during the move.
