Judge James Boasberg ordered placed a temporary hold — for 14 days — on Trump’s use of 1798’s Alien Enemies Act, and applied it to active deportations already in progress: “Any plane containing these folks that is going to take off or is in the air needs to be returned to the United States however that is accomplished. Make sure it’s complied with immediately.”

“I do not believe I can wait any longer and am required to act,” Boasberg added, noting that because the gang members in question would remain in federal custody despite the hold on their deportation. “A brief delay in their removal does not cause the government any harm.”

It would be mystifying to me but I'd rather consider the obvious. A partisan District Court judge believes it 'trumps' the Executive branch of the government.

Yeah, so from his own pronouncements, it's pretty clear to me, as an attorney, that Judge Boasberg has a raging case of "Black Robe Disease" which is what lawyers say about judges who get too big for their britches. 

He didn't get what he wanted and now he's throwing a tantrum, and threatening to jail the gov't's attorney for contempt - if I'm Trump, I have someone monitoring this and I order them released immediately which, as President, he can do.  For shits and giggles, I might have the judge picked up and brought to the WH so we can discuss the arbitrary and capricious deprivation of freedom.  Then I'd ask him if he'd like to see 'Gitmo, just to watch him wet himself.

This is the first time in history that District court judges are making national
decisions for the entire country.

They usually make court decisions for their regions of the country. 

Roberts was appointed by George W Bush not by Trump. Just like any of
the Bush's, he was never really a conservative. GW Bush wanted to nominate
Harriet Miers who was just a Whitehouse legal council and was never a judge.
The Republicans shut that dumb-@ss idea down and the Dem's let them.

Bush nominated Alito who is pretty good, but Roberts thinks he smells too
much like flowers when he farts.
