AvHdB:
On the 1st of January 1999 the Euro was introduced to the public.

Curious to hear memories, thoughts, and opinions 25 years latter.

Manny:
I miss Deutschmarks, Guilders and Estonian Kroons.

But I suppose it did make life easier when travelling on the mainland. It was a PIA changing currency every few hours when driving through.

Im stilll thinking the 10% price hike the NL suffered initiallly was grossly unneeded, it was only to appease germany.

Much more convenient to travel, ofc.  I do miss Italian Lire though.  They Italians has some really beautiful money.  The 500 Lire coin was particularly lovely.

I recall there was a time in the 00s when the value of the € dipped below $1.  I recall exactly where I was when it equaled $1 again - at a Delta Sky Club (they were called Crown Rooms back then) because they had newspapers from all over the world, all of which, both foreign and domestic, except 1 had news about the Afghan war.

The one?  Le Monde.  The headline?   "1€ = $1!"  The French are so reliably French. :chuckle:  I guess nobody told them that the ECB is really the Bundesbank, writ large.
