Yes, but will the world be better off now? Syria aint exactly a stable country and needs a strong hand to rule it.
A sensible dictator is much better than head-choppers who close Christian church's and rape a lot of young women.

PS...they are not a good fit for Syrians, because many Syrians are Shia, and they are not.
I was under the impression that more Syrians are Shia Muslims, and it looks like more are Sunni Muslims. Hopefully they will all get along. Assad was an Alawite. Not exactly sure what that means although believe it is closer to Shia, as Assad got along well with Iran.
