Chinese Ship Captained By Russian Officer Seized By Danish Navy For sabotaging undersea cables

Chinese ship Yi Peng 3, captained by a Russian officer, was intercepted and boarded by the Danish Navy’s vessel Y311 Søløven. This action followed its suspected involvement in the destruction of two critical undersea telecom cables in the Baltic Sea.

Russia obviously is blaming it on Ukraine, I am waiting for the Russian sycophants
here to blame it on Americans and that the Russians are innocent Angels.

One wonders how a cruise ship might damage an undersea cable anyway. Are these cables located in shallow water where ships might strike them? You'd imagine they are in deep water.

From the Newsweek article:

Quote
Finland and Sweden have opened investigations, but Helsinki has urged caution in not jumping to conclusions. The Finnish said China cooperated with a probe into an incident last year in which another Chinese ship damaged a Baltic gas pipeline between Finland and Estonia, with neither country yet claiming it was intentional.

It does seem a bit of a stretch to pin it on Russia simply because the captain might be Russian (as it is unconfirmed he is). It's a Chinese ship, and they likely don't have any interest in Baltic Sea cables.

American/Western media is always alleging Russia is poised to cut undersea cables. I wrote about this on RT a few years ago.

It may well just be an accident.

Even if the captain of the vessel is Russian and even if he decided to use his employer's ship to do some damage, what does that mean?

Last I knew, large vessels do not have a single crewmember, the captain. There's not even just one crewmember on the bridge.

In order to cause the damage as outlined, on purpose, he would have had to get the crew to agree to stop the ship in a particular place, drop the anchor, start the ship up again, and motor around in circles until the captain's objective was achieved.

So, most of the crew, including the officers, would have been involved in such a course of action. What're the chances of that happening without some pushback or communication with the ship's owners or contractors?
...everything ends always well; if it’s still bad, then it’s not the end!

Do you think it's even possible to run over an undersea cable with a
cargo ship on purpose or by accident? I don't.

I do, it happened more than once and in deeper waters as well (atlantic ocean) than the baltic sea.

“Most submarine cable faults occur as a result of human activities such as fishing and anchoring in shallow waters near shore, natural hazards such as earthquakes, landslides, and then equipment failure,” MainOne said.

And for reference:
The average depth of the Baltic Sea is only 55 metres..... so all of it is 'near shore' for fishing/anchoring purposes.

Only 2 weeks ago, I visited the SS-Rotterdam (Engine and Chrome tour) and learned that the maximum depth of an anchoring cruise ship from the 1960s which the SS-Rotterdam is, is 70meters. top speed was an impressive 37 knots, although for cruises it did not exceed 22 knots.

It does not matter what you think. It has happened before; it will happen again. The USA has said they do not think it was an act of sabotage (whatever that's worth these days).

Two lines were cut within hours of each other.

Whatever we say is for some purpose other than the truth, so I'll assume the opposite.

I'll assume Russia did it or had it done.  That is how it goes.  I wouldn't be surprised if they do more of these types of activities.   We reap what we have sewn.
