"What was said by Trump about the desire to restore relations with Russia and resolve the Ukrainian crisis, it seems to me that it deserves at least attention," the Russian leader said.

Ukrainians are blocked in 2-3 large areas

The Ukrainian army is blocked in at least two to three areas in the Center group's area of %u200B%u200Boperation in Donbass, Russian President Putin said.

Although he did not name them the main direction is apparently Kurakhove and then Siversk.

The Associated Press analyzed Trump's public statements after announcing his plans to run for president.

Trump will try to end the war in Ukraine without military intervention.

The Wall Street Journal had more details.

Trump proposes a front-line war freeze, "consolidation" of occupied territories in Russia, a demilitarized zone 1,300 kilometers long but not in depth, and a 20-year suspension of Kiev's membership in NATO.
The Wall Street Journal writes that Trump's foreign policy advisers are offering him different solutions for Ukraine.

But all involve a sharp shift from the concept of "as long as needed" support to allowing Ukraine to begin peace negotiations.

Republican advisers "unanimously" recommend freezing the conflict, leaving about 20 percent of Ukraine's territory to Russia and "temporarily suspending" Kiev's efforts to join NATO.

Ukraine will not join NATO for at least 20 years.
In return, the United States will continue to supply Ukraine with weapons.

Also, following a freeze along the front line, a demilitarized zone of 800 miles (1,287 km) is proposed between the troops of Ukraine and the Russian Federation. It is not yet clear who will control it.

Options for introducing peacekeeping forces without the involvement of US troops and any US-sponsored structures, including the United Nations, are being discussed.

That Ukraine is not joining as a full member of NATO I do not see any loss there. A demilitarized zone, based on past recent history just look at Armenia. It also does not seem so rosy in Transdneister.  Nuclear weapons it seems that only the Kremlin is shaking that rattle.  Vladdy the cry baby?

I imagine that rather soon there is going to be a ceasefire, because Ukraine will not be receiving any more arms or money from the USA. Zelensky can than leave with his ill-begotten wealth. His actions caused death and destruction in his own nation, although much of the blame lies with the west.

Those who are still living in Ukraine need to focus on regaining their lives without war. Sadly they have indeed lost much territory. Maybe they will have learned a lesson, just like the Afghani's did? Don't trust the west.

When the time comes for negotiating a peace between Russia and Ukraine do you really think Putin will allow Ukraine to retain any part of Russia? Putin will demand to keep Crimea and the Donbas but he will also want all Russian territory seized by Ukraine back under Russian control.

Especially in southern Donetsk between Kurakhove which the Russians entered and north of Ugledar to Konstantynopil (Istanbul) the fall of which leads to the total collapse of a 1,000 square kilometer front...

A new development elite forces of the Russians entered 1.5 km deep into the Chernihiv region and gained a foothold by occupying the settlement of Kolos...

Russian-born lawyer Boris Epstein is a favorite for Trump's special envoy to Ukraine

The position of US President-elect Donald Trump's special envoy for Ukraine may be filled by his adviser, Russian-born lawyer Boris Epstein, the New York Times has revealed.
The newspaper cites sources close to the US president-elect.
Epstein is a lawyer who led Trump's defense and argued that the 2020 election, which Biden won, was rigged.
He was born in Russia and lived there as a child.
He has relatives both in Russia and Ukraine.
Trump "listened with apparent interest and did not reject the proposal" to appoint Epstein as a special envoy for Ukraine, although he has not yet committed to doing so, the paper said.
According to the publication, Trump appreciates Epstein's strengths and accepts his advice.
Even the world's richest man, Elon Musk, who attended many of the government formation meetings last week, privately noted how surprised he was that Mr. Epstein had been given so much power.

“There is no one in the president-elect's entourage who currently doubts Epstein's level of influence.

He quickly became one of the most important figures in the early days of the presidential transition, even though he had no official role in it,” the article said.
Specifically, Epstein reportedly advised Trump on who to appoint to the US Department of Justice.

He was also a lobbyist for the candidacy of Matt Gaetz for the post of minister.

There is a great many carrots and sticks that Trump can use to get
each side to the table and to help get them to an eventual agreement.
There is a lot of complicated issues here and both sides need have citizens
that they need to keep happy. Both leaders would like to be considered both
tough and magnanimous at the same time.

The war is horrible, lots of death on both sides. Anyone would hopefully want
their fellow countrymen, women and children to stop dying. I want to believe
that each side would love to have a face saving way of getting out of this
horrific war and to end the bloodshed for as far into the future as one
can see.
