Zelensky's Victory Plan Wants Immediate NATO Involvement in War with Russia – It's Unworkable
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky unveiled a five-part Ukraine Victory Plan aimed at winning the war by the end of 2025 which includes a pledge to contribute experienced Ukrainian troops to the defense of NATO's eastern flank after the war is resolved in Ukraine.
Zelensky said Ukraine's Victory Plan aims to end the war "no later than" 2025 and consists of five points, including:
1) Immediate invitation to join NATO plan is unworlable
2)Continuation of Western support and aid, including equipping Ukrainian brigades;
3) Supporting Ukraine's ability to use Western-supplied weapons to strike military targets in Russia and increasing intelligence sharing with Ukraine.
4) Western and Ukrainian strategic deterrence against Russia without excluding nuclear ones.
5) Western investment in Ukraine's strategic economic development and a promise that Ukrainian forces will "replace" some Western military units currently in Europe after the war ends.
Zelensky said Ukrainian forces would use their war experience to bolster NATO's defenses and ensure security in Europe, and noted that Ukrainian units could replace unspecified parts of US forces in Europe in the future.
Zelensky noted that there are several secret aspects of the plan that he has shared with Ukraine's Western allies.
Zelensky said Ukraine's fate is linked to the fate of its neighbours in the Baltics, the Balkans, the Caucasus and Central Asia, and warned that Ukraine and the West must support Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity or risk future Russian attack.
