Did you watch the whole movie? It is a fascinating tale. Too think that so many Germans killed so many Russians a couple hundred of years later (and vice-a-versa) is rather sad, considering that the Russian nobility was essentially German. And too think what a sad end the Romanov's met because of Communism.

Yes I watched it. Seriously tragic on several levels.  :snivel:

I thought it was mostly a happy story, because her and her husband loved each other, in spite of his affairs, par for the course for aristocracy.  She had 7 children after all.

The young woman Maria von Preussen certainly looked like her ancestor.

I've read that book. A great book although Timothy Snyder has a "victors" viewpoint.
