Happy New Year 2024 to my friends here on RUA!

Just uploaded my midnight salute shot for this year. Fired my 3-inch bore Coehorn mortar. This little field mortar weighs around 100 pounds complete on the wooden base so it's easy to move around with nothing more than a dolly.

Turn speakers up and enjoy.  tiphat

Well it is before "Old New Year" still, so I will admit to being fashionably late....

Happy (late) New Year, Merry Christmas Eve to the Orthodox among us, and Happy Epiphany Eve (and Three Kings Day) to those of the Western Rite.

Loved it! Stayed at the Shangri-la in Kowloon, I could live there.  :chuckle:

What an expensive place to play in though. But great fun.

Was there a casino in there, or just the price for eating at a restaurant there? The photos of the place sure look nice.

I didn't see any casinos, most people go to nearby Macau for that.

Eating out is an arm and a leg there. Probably double UK prices. Often more.

For example, the hotel evening buffet, after my member discount, is £88 per person (US$112). I declined that kind offer.  :chuckle:

Taxis are quite cheap, not much else is. A tram to the peak or up the Sky 100 tower, about £50 for 3. Three coffees and a small snack in Starbucks £30+. You can easily burn £500 a day.

But those prices do keep the riff-raff away. So it has a value there.

Still sounds like a great place for a vacation.

Have you ever gone to Las Vegas for New Years Eve? It's a very famous place to go and reservations are taken many months in advance.

As far as buffets I think Vegas is the king of buffets. Because the hotel also wants you to gamble with them, the prices are excellent.

At most hotels 3 to 4 people can eat for $100. And their buffets are truly excellent. Want seafood? They fly it in from the West coast (Pacific ocean). Want steak? Check, they've got excellent steak. Etcetera.

And if you stay on the strip where most of the best Hotels are, you can go to some excellent shows while there. If you do gamble, set a limit and don't go over, no matter what. A good limit is $50 to $100 a day max, so that you can enjoy everything else. Famous last words...

Swimming pools and most hotel Spa's are excellent.

I can recommend Caesar's Palace, Paris, Monte Carlo and the MGM. Naturally the light show at the Bellagio fountains is fabulous.

Paris has the best rooms and best selection of restaurants IMO besides having a great buffet. Monte Carlo is a very good value. Bellagio is a bit spendy but it's all relative.

There are almost always very good Rock and Roll shows as well as top magicians and other acts to see.

If you don't want to stay on the strip, Red Rock is very good. I recommend the strip for a first time visitor, so that you can really get the vibe.  :coffeeread:
