Salman Rushdie attacked
« on: August 12, 2022, 10:37:32 AM »
Salman Rushdie, the author whose writing led to death threats from Iran in the 1980s, was attacked Friday as he was about to give a lecture in western New York.

Rushdie's attacker was captured but hasn't been identified. Anyone want to bet his religion?

Even though Komeini is dead, the Fatwa was never revoked, so according to Muslims, his death is honor to the faith.

The Chautauqua Institution is within about a mile of our cottage on Chautauqua lake... I've attended many events (concerts, mostly) at the institution. What a shame it's the location of the most recent exhibition of Muslim love. Frankly the whole place is terribly liberal and celebrates the diversity of their 'community' - what's a proper celebration without a little blood?

They caught the guy and he has now been identified as 24-year-old Hadi Matar of New Jersey. Looks like Rushdie is going to live but might lose an eye.

Funny story: My great-grandfather gave some cash to that place years and years ago, so they named a pedestrian bridge on the grounds in his honor. A few years back when they published some really liberal article or something that pissed off my grandpa he slipped a screwdriver into his pocket, drove down to the institution and nonchalantly removed the plaque from the bridge. It hangs in the garage now.
