Travelling to Sochi
« on: August 09, 2022, 03:07:06 PM »
Hi. I am from the UK and my fiance is in Sochi. As we all know due to recent events that travel has become severely disrupted. Does anyone know of any successful route(s) I can take from the UK? Thanks in advance.

Get a Russia Visa
Get on a plane to Helsinki
Take a private car to St. Petersburg. (uber, taxi, whatever)
Fly as close to sochi as you can.
Take a train/bus to the final destination.

And... One more thing if I may? What to do about money since I won't be able to use cards. Could I exchange dollars or GBP for roubles in Helsinki?
Many thanks.

Am Aussie mate of mine has just ridden his BMW motorbike across the Border from Finland, and is heading down through Russia, The Caucus and Georgia to Turkey. No visa issues.

Thanks for that too. I assumed that the currency couldn't be exchanged.

Travelling to Sochi through Belgrade, Serbia
« Reply #7 on: August 11, 2022, 08:34:34 PM »
I found flights from Belgrade, Serbia to Sochi, Russia *   they were about $500 to $800    Serbia Air
I have no idea of the relative ease of flying through Belgrade vs driving across border.
the missus spent somewhere in the vicinity of 12hrs waiting at EU border control. 16hr bus ride from Moscow to Riga, I think, plus the wait at border control.  back in March.

*I used plane finder to look at all flights going into Sochi.  I found only one coming from the western world.  there was also a flight from Yerevan, Armenia

From the UK, most flights are via Turkey now. Have a read of this topic.

On cash, change £ for Roubles in Russia, don't change through dollars, there is no point or benefit.

Look what the American media makes some people believe:
Putin often threatens to strike US with nuclear weapons.

From the UK.............

Can you imagine if Moby were still around how the post count on this thread alone
would be in the hundreds? thousands? Instead, it was a brief mostly informative
thread that quickly covered the information and everyone moved on.
