Maybe post something a bit different than what folks are consumed with these days...
Not sure if anyone here is an equine enthusiast.
But did anyone in the US had a chance to watch the 148th running of the Kentucky Derby last Saturday? Outside of the famed Secretariat, and in an almost the same unbelievable fashion, Rich Strike wowed equine enthusiasts everywhere in winning the derby.
You can see on the video below when the gate opened and the race began, Rich Strike was in the outside gate 21 (farthest left in your screen), and he had to swerve over and began running at the back of the pack (same way Secretariat did). Almost the entire race, Rich Strike was so far behind he was hardly ever visible in the screen. It wasn't until the last half mile or so where he started appearing in the screen...yet was still much too far behind so many other horses. Even the race caller didn't even bother mentioning is name until literally they cross the finish line.
The difference in this race and the one Secretariat ran was that, Secretariat was simply dominant as he ran from the outside lane, and just blew by everyone. Rich Strike, ran this race mostly along the inside rail, cutting and swerving horses before blowing by the last 4 seconds to win.
Here's an overview of that amazing run!
Simply unbelievable!
Consider: a) Rich Strike was added into the Derby with 30 seconds left for qualifying by virtue of a scratched entry last Friday. b) This was Jockey Leon's first run in the derby, and he was magnificent!, c) Rich Strike was the longest shot in the race at 80:1
Wifey and I are currently horse enthusiasts. We are presently hunting for a modest 'x' acre ranch property, preferably outside of California, and acquire two or more horses. I've owned a horse before, and ride quite a bit. I know my way around horses. Wife had been taking riding lessons, and is actively getting acclimated to pasture/stable daily chores to prepare herself once we do get lucky enough to find that what we seek.
We ride quite a bit in Sta. Barbara these days. One of the things in our bucket list is riding for Sombrero Ranch's annual horses drive.
