Drama at the Olympics today. After a nail biting final, Dina Averina, the Russian Olympic hopeful for gold was knocked down to silver by Israels Linoy Ashram. Dinas twin, Arina, was also relegated to 4th and missed a place on the podium by Belarusian gymnast Harsenko. A big upset for Russia.

The Olympics should be done away with. In many countries including this one, many thousands of children spend their childhood trying to complete only to get scraped and never go.  Most who do go do not get any permanent benefit. There are a lot of permanent injuries that occur in training. The world would be a better place if there was no Olympics. The Original idea of the Olympics was that the different countries athletes would complete but it was never thought the thousands of children would have completely different childhood trying to get this honor and personal recognition.
3) There has been no "threat" to invade Ukraine. The US invented that and fed it to a complicit media.

That's a thoughtful consideration for the many young athletes who will never compete on the world stage. But your pessimistic sentiment is contrary to the disposition of any athlete who has competed in the Olympic Games... losers see obstacles where winners see opportunity. I'm a far cry from any sort of Olympic athlete, but I can draw inspiration from the competitors' steadfast devotion to excellence in their given disciplines.

Ukraine had an impressive routine at the '16 Olympics in Rio. They performed to Madonna's "Vogue." While the various competitors would disagree with me, I feel that anyone who even just makes it to the games is a winner! I feel bad when you see the losers crying, but hey, someone's gotta win and someone's gotta lose.

Should we get rid of the Super Bowl or World Cup because most athletes won't make it there? In some countries, even low level athletes are well taken care of in hopes they will eventually make it to the Olympics. Many nations up the reward if a medal is won. China gives their athletes $700,000 for a gold medal.

Everybody who made it to the Olympics have won most of their events just to get there. They have nothing to be ashamed about if they lose in the Olympics.

I watched some Russian rhythm gymnastics on Youtube. Russians also do well in synchronized swimming. Does anybody know where I can find videos of the bedroom gymnastics events?

Over 220 generals and admirals say we are in a fight for our survival like no other time since 1776. If you want to stop the war in Ukraine, fix elections, stop medical tyranny and forced vaccinations, lower inflation and make America and the world a better place, get Trump back into power. The Democrats and Republicans have shown they can't do the job. They are good at robbing us and getting people killed in non stop wars.

Top level athletics has its challenges. It takes work and sacrifice. That's a given in any field of endeavour. Of course most people are not particularly good at anything, but they enjoy doing what they do and accept the rewards of performing at their level.

Doing away with the Olympics would not make life 'better' for athletes. Other events would then become the premier ones in the athlete's discipline.

There are other, probably better reasons for scaling back or doing away with the Olympics but those reasons have little to do with sport.
