US Television
« on: December 15, 2020, 10:55:49 AM »
I just recently started watching Designated Survivor on Netflix.

An American political thing where some unsuspecting bloke finds himself US president after a terrorist incident. I didn't expect it would be much good but its actually very good and well written, I'm really enjoying it.

Speaking of US television, I wanted to watch The Undoing with Hugh Grant and Nicole Kidman. It's on HBO. I used my VPN to make myself in the US, and it lets you watch the first episode, but to watch the rest you must do an HBO subscription which I don't really want to do. And on Amazon they want £14 ($19) to watch it.  :o

Is there a more economical way to watch that does anyone know?

I reckon so, but that seems to be a live channel feed rather than an on-demand.

Looks like it may be on Apple TV which I have an account for......

Edit: £2.49 per episode on Apple.  (:)

It is available for download on many non-legitimate services. That's the most economical way.

Might you know of a reliable one?

Try: https://rarbgget.org/index80.php
or https://tpbpirateproxy.org/en

I didn't check that the show you want is there, but between the two I'd be very surprised if they were not.

If you have Netflix and want to download stuff then https://www.playon.tv/ is great. I use the desktop version, it'll cost you a few dollars to buy but it is reliable, easy to use and you can use it for a whole host of streaming services. I use it for just Netflix or Amazon Prime Video. Extend your reach with Playon with a VPN and get content from the USA as well as the UK.

An advantage of PlayOn is that you don't need to be a one-legged bloke with an eyepatch and a parrot! On the downside, the recordings are at 720p not HD or UHD, but the recordings are of good quality which can look better than a highly compressed but higher resolution version.

Download Cinema HD to your tv or device.  If you are using a VPN you should have no worries.

Thanks to all.

From one of the links Andrew posted, I've finally wrapped my head around torrents. Seems to do what I want it to. I found all sorts there.

Speaking of US programmes, I have recently watched Yellowstone, which is great.

I am currently on The Resident on Netflix.

We're considering a tour of Montana, simply because of Yellowstone.

Anything I can't find on Netflix, I get from The Pirate Bay, indeed. However, in the "free" UK, you must use a VPN to access it.

Another site from which to obtain backups for legally owned content is: https://torrenting.com/ A smaller range of torrents than the Pirate Bay, but better curated. If they have a torrent, it is likely to work.

Also, for TV stuff, especially for entire seasons as TV Packs: https://eztv.ch/search/ You'll have to deal with pop-ups, etc., but a very useful site, once you get to the meat n' taters.

If you need something found, I have better sites than Pirate Bay.

Torrenting is fine, i have almost unlimited download credentials there.

Yes, I have no problems with Pirate Bay, but Torrenting.com is a good site, and I too have a good upload record. :) For those who don't know, their system is set up to reward those who are happy to keep files live to share and upload for long periods. That helps keep the site working well.

Also on Netflix, if you don't mind subtitles, is a Korean series called Crash Landing on You. It's been a huge hit all over the world. It's about a rich South Korean woman who finds herself in North Korea and her quest to get home. The depictions of North Korea are very accurate indeed. I'm not sure if they managed to do some filming there or they did it with tech wizardry, but it's very very good.

The Koreans seem to have a bit of a lock on original storytelling; perhaps it is the cultural differences that makes for 'new' looking programming?

As opposed to Hollywood who use Russians as the bad guys in literally everything they can, whilst the honourable US saves the world?

Well, having Russians as baddies is probably cheaper than using British villains. :)

Hollywood went woke and they destroyed their own industry. They can't admit
that is the problem, so they are on a rehash kick now. It looks like they need
