Uk to leave EU to form BU?
« on: September 24, 2020, 08:31:00 AM »
How the UK may very well get involved is a union that will offer it so much more than the EU ever did?

No point jumping from one union into another.

Canada has a left wing government in any event. And we dont want to encourage that. So certainly no political union. Australia and New Zealand would never agree to freedom of movement with the UK in any event. And who can blame them? We've let half the third world in.

I agree to closer general ties and trade agreements with those countries. But we dont need a formal union to do that. In fact, we are quite close to them, and think of them as culturally closer than the US already.

I agree that with Canada being under Trudeau it is far too ‘progressive’ and doesn’t bode well for the future of Canada. Hopefully Canadians will come to their senses and kick him out at the next election.
As far as third world immigration goes we’re all in the same boat I think except that we have more of the uneducated riffraff.
All in all, I don’t think it’s a bad idea. With the distances involved  there won’t be the same volume of chancers trying potluck from country to country and ending up here as it was with the EU.

I think the UK should leave, treble its defense spending.. bring back national service and try to become an Empire again!

Why not!! Make Britain Great again I say.. who needs friends when your an Empire.. Britain needs no one if they start taking back control of their own water AND other peoples.. The US are doing a good job of it? The UK used to do a good job of it.. so why not start again.. Lets start first with Gibraltar.. give the Spanish a bit to worry about put more troops on the Island a few missile launchers .. see how far the Spanish are willing to go..  Once you shut them up.. cos lets face it what exactly can they do about it? Nothing!

So next stop? mmm Germany?

I agree with Manny, we already have a great relationship with these countries.
Why do we need a Union. That ends up being more Bureaucrats  wasting all of out money.

Best I can tell we all have more than enough politcians pissing away our tax dollars.
Why add to that. Creat great trade deals and bring each evne closer sure, great idea.
But otherwise why mess with what works.
There is nothing permanent except change.

Above is the crux of the problem with the EU. Great idea lousy execution. Sort of like communism wonderful in theory really bad in reality. Socialism works great ~ only if others work.

The trouble with small countries is they do not usually innovate as much. The EU problem is all the different countries have different language and different cultural. They are not really a good fit and they are never going to really be one country anytime soon. No body builds a battery factory in the UK because you do not have supplies to natural resources.  With a large group then everything would change. The group would become a one of the worlds largest manufacturing forces and separate you guys just get walked on and then blame the USA for everything that is wrong. As a group the EU would be begging you guys for a trade deal this way it is not that big of a deal. Just like in the video where it has been done in Asia the small countries are doing much better in a group than they did separately. The UK is even having a hard time keeping the isle together because it does not have that much to offer. If it were a part of something bigger then no one would want to leave because it would be such a huge loss.

It is your countries and every what your happy with is just fine with me.

There are numerous issues with this logic. Small countries often can react better to oppurtunities than large integrated economies can not seize. Saucony Running Shoes and Dutch Yacht Builders are major players in there respective markets. The weakness is such as Nokia are often blind to the bigger picture.

As for the UK further fracturing while possible not likely in my opinion.

The trouble with small countries is they do not usually innovate as much.
Usually? Don't think so:

Netherlands brought forth giants like Philips, Shell.
South Korea: Samsung anyone?
Japan: Many, Many examples.
Qatar? Dubai? Hong-Kong (although technically this is china and not small)?

If anything, I'd say that other than china/russia/america, larger countries do not innovate much.
Anyone ever hear what for instance Kazakhstan invented? Or perhaps Mongolia? Brazil? Argentine? Angola? Algeria? huge countries but not much tech there.

I’m being slightly precious here but what about Scotland? From the famous Churchill quote;

“Of all the small nations on this earth, perhaps only the ancient Greeks surpass the Scots with their contribution to mankind.”

Tex you couldn’t be more ignorant with your global views if you tried. This is why you almost never understand how the world really works.

Tex, would you say Scotland is a small country? You might want to look up Scottish inventions. There's a bigger list here. There's nothing like constant drizzle and 5c temperatures to send a bloke into his shed with a bottle of whisky to invent something.

The UK is even having a hard time keeping the isle together because it does not have that much to offer. If it were a part of something bigger then no one would want to leave because it would be such a huge loss.

For a nation that 'doesn't have much to offer', we manage to be the worlds 5th biggest economy. The US is many times the size with a much larger population but is only three places ahead. And we don't need to shoot each other constantly.

Perhaps the US should have a union with Mexico? Half of Mexico live there already and you'd save a lot by not having to build that wall.

Note: Not that I want to see you moderated, but the reason that the EU formed has zero relationship with the topic being discussed.

Texan has a valid point in my opinion. But even if you added together the UK, Canada, Australia and say New Zeeland, I sort of doubt the ranking would change by much.

More remarkable is the projected growth in India and China.

Actually we come very close to having a economic union with Mexico and Canada. Both countries are growing a lot because of USA trade. We have tried early in our development as a country to make Canada part of the Union but they did not want to. In Mexico they speak a different language and most of the people there are screaming liberals.

Now let talk about this innovation thing. There is a concept called quantum computer. They were first thought of in the USA. We have built the first computer one. But these new generation of computer are key to being first in anything and everything. Lockheed Martin has the worlds first Quantum computer. At this point we can not fully utilize it because of soft ware is in its infancy stage. This is the first one so it is not fully developed neither to do what one of these computer will be able to do in near future. The Chinese  have borrow some of this technology from us and is spending huge amount of money to develop a better one and get a head of us. Now where is Scotland in the development of the quantum computer. What kind of 5g network, advance computers or semiconductors has your other small countries developed.  Small countries do not make these kind of breakthroughs.  They are just not able to complete.  They are left to buy equipment from the USA or China.  If they do not they get left in the dust. This idea that nothing come from the USA is just something you guys have invented to not feel inferior.
