There are upcoming elections in Belarus on 9 August.

Lukashenko seeks to continue ruling.

Do you think this is good or bad?

Well he must be worried enough to have 32 mercenaries from Wagner Group arrested.

Law enforcement sources said they had received information about the arrival on Belarusian territory of 200 fighters "to destabilise the situation during the election campaign".

Belta, a state news agency, said the men were from Wagner Group, a private military company notorious for it's role in war zones where the Russian Government can deny official involvement, like Eastern Ukraine, Syria and Libya

Fair play to the guy.. seems ok to me.. If I was the President of any country I would ALSO fix it so I stayed in power , if that included a few assassinations so be it.. I wouldn't really fancy giving my thrown up to anyone would you?

When I get my own island there will be NO elections.. like my rule or clear off..
I support no government anywhere, ever, never. No institution, No religion!!

Many presidential candidates were arrested for crimes. They were about to take the kids away from one candidate because there were stories of abuse so the candidate with his family fled Belarus. Lukashenko is just making sure only the most decent people are available to run for president.

Not only did those guys have propaganda material on them, they had condoms. Clear sign they were going to "screw" Belarussians.

Over 220 generals and admirals say we are in a fight for our survival like no other time since 1776. If you want to stop the war in Ukraine, fix elections, stop medical tyranny and forced vaccinations, lower inflation and make America and the world a better place, get Trump back into power. The Democrats and Republicans have shown they can't do the job. They are good at robbing us and getting people killed in non stop wars.

Come to find out, the Russian mercenaries confessed to wanting to screw Latin American girls. That explains the condoms they were carrying. What about the propaganda material? Was it in Russian or Espanol?

Belarus has had 'elections' and the 'results is a farce.

6500 arrested and beatings and may be even a death at the hands of the internal security forces.

I am seeing not a few folks from BY join  Telegram ( which I am told is no longer secure.)

Hands up who believes Lukashenko got 80.1 %  of the vote.

The west WILL sanction BY.

Personally, I think Lukashenko will be joining Yanukovych in Sochi's mountain retreats..

Ukraine business news

On Saturday, Lukashenko asked President Putin for Russia to intervene militarily. But, according to the Kremlin readout of the call, Putin only promised to keep talking to the besieged 65-year-old leader. In Belarus, protesters do not call for withdrawal from two Moscow-led organizations – the Eurasian Economic Union and the Collective Security Treaty Organization. Without an anti-Moscow slant to the Belarus protest, some analysts drew parallels last night to the 2018 revolution in Armenia. They predict the Kremlin will work with a Belarus democracy movement that does not take aim at Russia.
3) There has been no "threat" to invade Ukraine. The US invented that and fed it to a complicit media.

Lukashenko moved towards the West to give the impression he's doing the people's will and show Putin he can't be controlled. He even invited Secretary of State Pompeo to Belarus. Although Lukashenko and Putin aren't on the best of terms, what we have here is opportunity and Putin doesn't pass up on opportunity unless the cons outweigh the benefits. Putin doesn't need to act now. When Lukashenko is getting close to being overthrown, that is when Putin will come and help since he'll have more leverage to get what he wants in return. The other option is less desirable and that is to allow Lukashenko to be overthrown and have Belarussians install a pro Western president. For Putin the best option is to help keep Lukashenko as president and as their puppet so Belarus will be in debt to Russia for many more years.

NATO rejects Lukashenko claim it's positioning forces near Belarus borders

NATO has rejected accusations by embattled Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko that it was deploying forces to that country’s western frontiers, but said it was keeping a close eye on events there.

“NATO does not pose a threat to Belarus and has no military buildup in the region,” Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said in a statement Monday as huge public protests continued to roil  Belarus following Lukashenko’s claim that he soundly won reelection in the Aug. 9 presidential elections.

“We remain vigilant, strictly defensive, and ready to deter any aggression against NATO allies,” Stoltenberg said. “We support a sovereign and independent Belarus.”

Lukashenko claimed Sunday that NATO forces were 15 minutes from Belarus’ western borders with Poland and Lithuania.

My wife was telling me yesterday that there's a feeling that Russia may intervene but not in a way many expect. Lukashenko isn't exactly a favourite of Putin and if things spiral out of control, she feels that Russia may 'get rid' of him and install a Russian puppet in Viktor Babariko.

Lukashenko has burnt his bridges with Putin to a degree and there's a feeling that once this all settles down, possibly with Russia's help, Lukashenko will return to playing Russia off against the West for a better deal. Putin would obviously prefer unconditional support from a country he's helping out.

It's just a shame that the Belarusian people cant choose who gets to run their country. I read daily content on social media from my wife's friends and there's some horrific things going on. Women allegedly being raped, men beaten and raped with truncheons etc. It's hardly believable that this stuff is going on in Europe in 2020.

It puts the antics and theatrics of the UK anti democratic, government whiners into perspective. Grow the F*** up.

Rosco, obviously not in Belarus myself, but my read is that the country is undergoing an externally organised Color Revolution. The script is so familiar.

This is important for Russia and Belarusians who are to a much greater degree than Ukrainian people 'Russian'.

Lukashenko has already suggested a mechanism that enables a change of leadership whilst making it clear that he understands that the current activity is sponsored, sourced, and supported from the West.

The Belarusian version of Guiado who is now holed up in Lithuania will not be part of any grouping that might replace Lukashenko.

My take is that Viktor Babariko is already lined up to replace Lukashenko and with Lukashenko's grudging support. All that happens now is to use Russian knowledge to end the Color Revolution after which some form of plebescite will install Babariko.

One thing of which we can be sure, Russia will not allow Belarus to fall.
...everything ends always well; if it’s still bad, then it’s not the end!
