My views of China have changed little, it is a militarized and authoritarian State that has little regard for the peoples common good. But it is so enormous that I doubt any other system would work. The change of opinion in the West I suspect is due to media and is from ignorance.

The reality is the West assumes China to play by its rules, when the leaders in Beijing have not even figured out there own rules.

The article gives itself away as US fronted opinion piece sent out of Taiwan. The Pew Research Centre is based in Washington - enough said about them. Taiwan is a client state of the US and anti Mainland. So no ulterior motives then. 

While the article is a China bashing one, it did reveal this gem as a comparison:

Citizens in the surveyed countries also do not trust China's leader Xi Jinping, with a median of 78% saying they do not have confidence in him to do the right thing in world affairs.

Only U.S. President Donald Trump had a worse reputation among those surveyed, with a median of 83% saying they do not trust him.

But since Trump is neck and neck with his competitor in the polls, 40 ish% each IIRC, how did Pew find their 'random cross section' managed to double hatred of Trump? Do they just have a bunch of random lefties on speed dial for these things?

China is becoming very unpopular. There is nothing about Taiwan that is a USA client state until the Chinese cause that problem by threaten them. They have reason for not being pro Chinese that you are not willing to admit. They do not want a social credit system keeping the CCP in power. Look at how unhappy Hong Kong with it. I know it goes above your head to see why this is the case.

There is a class system in China that you have not come to terms with. The top one per cent are mostly CCP party members and get privilege to let their business succeeds like state financing and looking the other way if they break a few laws. The middle class is almost completely made up Han Chinese while the 600 million minorities are basically living on less than 150 dollars a month.

What is fake is your belief that China is a normal country. They have a concentration camps, persecute religions, organ harvesting, social credit system, censorship of the internet, strict controls on reporters, a social justice system that enforce laws  based on political involvement. Because this is how the CCP stay in power. Without all of this they would of been over thrown many years ago.

They are one of the worlds most unpopular governments with there own people.  Of course if you are only asking Han Chinese that may not be the case but when you count the 600 million minorities it surely is. China keeps them under control only with constant military threat.

Both candidates in the USA are claiming to be hard on China because China has become so unpopular here. We have become popular in the south sea region because of China completely throwing out international law and claiming it nine dash line. In Indonesia they have become so up set with China that the people there are no longer friendly with Chinese people who visit. If you listen to Australian news it is very anti Chinese.  India is nearly at a state of war with China. Russia has gotten mad a China and is not delivery military equipment like the s400 system. 

Basically China only friends left in the world are third world countries who want to sell raw materials who have not yet succumb to their debt traps.
