Obesity and overweight population in Ukraine

Holy crap - http://www.euro.who.int/__data/assets/pdf_file/0019/243334/Ukraine-WHO-Country-Profile.pdf?ua=1 . Its got to differ by city or by region because I definitely don't remember seeing many overweight people in Odessa

What is interesting is apparently obesity rates are to  fall rapidly specifically for women based on that source (which I think is valid - its from World Health Organization):

--- Quote --- The  proportion  of  men  and  women  that  were obese  was  15.9%  and  25.7%,  respectively.  Adulthood  obesity  prevalence forecasts (2010–2030) predict that in 2020, 32% of men and 10% of women will be obese. By 2030, the model predicts that 49% of men and 6% of women will be obese.
--- End quote ---

Now that Ukraine is becoming more Westernized, why is it that women specifically are expected to remain fit?

That is probably because you was hanging around the bars with the other sex tourists only concentrating on the skinny chicks looking for a expensive dinner for the evening  :)

Try going out to the suburbs to taking the local buses you will see plenty of them there..

Enthusiast:
I wasn't hanging out in bars - I was born and raised there, then moved to the United States at the age of 13, where I was shocked at the number of fat people (no offense guys, but its not healthy...). I did live in downtown Odessa - rarely visited suburbs.

AvHdB:
Lets keep it simple.

There are fat people around the world. For some I suspect it is genes for others a life style choice.

In Ukraine and Russia there are fewer fat people, this tends to hold true for most of Eastern Europe men and women. They are present though. A couple years ago I was in Odessa and saw fat people who did not have a reflective device at home.  :sick0002:

If you want a 'fatty' you do not need to go further than the local Walmart or Golden Arches.

andrewfi:
Russia and Ukraine have different profiles for overweight. For example,  in Russia the propensity to obesity among women is similar to the United States. On the other hand,  men are very skinny.

In Ukraine men are more likely to be overweight than women.

When one moves outside of the outside of the expat or wife hunters' bubble one will see many overweight women and also quickly come to the conclusion that the propaganda about the women in these places is not true. The average person looks,  well,  average and most people are average. That's how life is.
