My take is that Poroshenko is doing what he can to deal with the Minsk Protocol and with the world as it is. He is not in a strong position because as president his powers are quite limited and his prime minister does not support Minsk 2.

Whilst the Kievan administration has missed each time target since Minsk 2 was agreed it seems to me that progress is being made. Whether Poroshenko can do enough and fast enough is impossible to know.

At this time his task must be something akin to the game of Frogger, jumping from log to log as they disappear from under his feet while he tries to attain the goals that he knows are vital to the survival of Ukraine.

Right now he could do with consultation with Yanukovych who was a master of the game of Frogger.
...everything ends always well; if it’s still bad, then it’s not the end!

And another piece falls into place. Simferopol is the biggest capitol of Crimea and houses the ruling body of Crimea. Looks like even in such an important place, the view is that a party was going on and not a hostile takeover.

This fits nicely with stuff I already knew.

Yep, I leave in 3 weeks.

Wife already warned me that groceries are same prices as Moscow, so pack some extra budget for it.

Yes.

What would you like to know? One thing that might surprise you is that there are a whole lot of Ukrainians vacationing in Crimea and tourism is doing well.

Most Ukrainians take the long way around and enter through Russia.

Is Simferopol really 87% Cheaper and Kiev 70% Cheaper than Boston, MA USA?

Todays quoted USD Rubles exchange...

1 US Dollar equals
65.44 Russian Rubles

Not quite as good as 80 Rubs to 1 Bux but still not too bad either...

Really depends upon the cost of living and food and groceries and if a US Passport will get you roughed up and robbed for fun there now that Crimea back in the USSR.

I think you can best answer this question by selecting 10 or so items you buy often (such as milk, sausage) and compare pricing.

milk (1ltr) in NL costs 0.70 euro , in Evpatoria/Crimea, it costs 65 Rouble (I dont know the exact exchange rate, but i think it would be very close to NL price).

And Tiblisi considering Maxx's positive experiences there:

Clearly Simferopol at 87% less than Boston is a bargain even compared to Tiblisi and or Kiev...

That is precisely what Expatistan does and helps you compare City to City.

I picked Simferopol as being inland 80 clicks by rail from Sevastapol and 100 clicks from Yalta would be a bit less than the prime season beaches resorts and surrounded by Dachas and fresh produce, peaches, wine and local organics might be even more economical and it seems to be verified by Expatistan.com

No kids so Vodka, Wine, Meat, Fruit & Veggies, Bread, Coffee, Tea, plus Transportation and a meal out with a Moscow or StP lass on vacation, Good SPF sun-screens... suppose a 3-year biz visa to Russia might do fine in Crimea but would likely stay away from Sevastopol naval bases as no need for an FSB enhanced interview.  Could be a decent alternate to the 90 Day UA musical chairs visa free limits having to duck out to Poland once every three months.

BUMP - Curious who is vacationing or staying in Crimea now this Summer of 2019 and how are actual conditions on the ground there now politically and economically?

When I get time will try and post some updated Expatistan price comparison charts...

Mark already posted that he’s going to Crimea later this summer.

For the European guys I think the south of France, Italy or Spain to be much better.

For me being a West Coast kid I love Hawaii the best and So Cal.

My favorite area of Crimea was Sevastopol. We took a guided tour through the city in 2012, I think you'd love it because of all the war history there.
