This is the second year I have grown watermelon and all three fruits should be ready by the end of September. It takes a long time for fruit to form from the blossoms and grow to full size. The vines will really start to branch out and be sure to leave plenty of space between other fruits and vegetables so they don't get entangled in the vines.

I promised to show you what is in my garden this year.
I will post only couple things.
These are pumpkins.

They are very small and I will use them to decorate kitchen.

These are big pumpkins. I put a small one on the top, so you could see its size.

I might be too busy next spring to plant. I have exchanged the gardening gloves for welding gloves and am currently in a welding diploma program that goes until next summer. I can't make any promises, but I will see what my schedule looks like when the next planting season comes around. The strawberries will come back without planting new seeds because they are perennials, though.

I have a distant relative who has a garden about 1/4 mile down the road from where I live. Their garden is more organized than mine and has less weeds too. They are growing a smaller variety of watermelon called a "sugar baby" that is dark green. I will try to get some pictures of their garden.

It's OK.
I am planning next summer to go to Russia and travel around Europe for six weeks.
I am not sure if garden will survive without me for so long.
You would win anyway. With weed or without.

Now I know where Iowa is.
I took a look on images. Beautiful place!
I was surprised to see on your pictures that ground there is black like in Russia.
Idaho ground is brown.
If I have Mississippi River 25 mikes away, I would go there every weekend!!!
Do you like to fish?

The Eastern part of the state along the river is the most interesting part of the state, with Lake Okoboji and Lake Rathbun a close second. The rest of the state is mostly farmland.
Yes, most of the state has black soil. The early settlers didn't think the surrounding prairies would be good farmland, but it turned out to be one of the best places to farm on the continent.

There are some boat rides and some people do fish on the Mississippi. However, there are better places than the Mississippi River that are not too far away.  Just across the Mississippi, in Wisconsin, there are excellent lakes for fishing and recreation.  One of my favorite places is Green Lake, Wisconsin although it is far from where I live. Huge variety of fish there like catfish, bluegill, yellow perch, lake trout, northern pike, muskellunge, bass, walleye, and more. Sadly, I have not been back since 2009 due to time constraints. Another negative is that the houses along the lake are very expensive, but that is pretty much the case with any waterfront property.

The person who shot this video doesn't specify which green lake this video was shot at, but there are a few barefoot water skiers in Green Lake, Wisconsin.

Very interesting!!!  Beautiful state.
The more I learn about the USA the more I love it.
Thank you.
Jet-skiing is amazing. I watched all 9 min 38sec, and imagined myself doing it.
I have never tried it. Have you?
Now I know how to use word “soil”.
In Russian we have one word for land, ground, soil and earth. It is земля.
So, it is a little confusing what word to use in what case.
From your post I understand a difference better.
When plant, I should use soil. But I am still lost between these four words.
Unfortunately, I am afraid of water. I like to swim in pool, but never in river or lake.

It is not seeds. I will buy bushes. WalMart sells them. You can find on-line also.
For example https://www.noursefarms.com/category/gooseberry-plants/

P.S. You will not cross US border with any plant.
