Health Problems with FSU Women

Again another post that many will not like I am thinking.

Health and Russian Women

Pre-2000 the medical profession in Russia like all FSU countries was problematic. (Still is)

The common Russian Joke was "If you want health do not go into a Russian Hospital"

Of if you are SICK do not go into a Russian Hospital because you will come out SICKER!!

Most Russians who had or have any money have their own Physicians and they are usually western
trained Physicians.

The lowest paid professionals typically in Russia are medical.

When I brought my attractive wife over from Russia, within the next 3 years she needed over $12,000
worth of dental work. And I had to address other medical problems.

I will not even go into her stamina and physical condition because it was NON-Extant. Had to address
this as well. And I see this with many RWs that have come over here.

Her teeth to say the least were terrible and this is a common story I hear from many of my friends that
brought Russian women over. Health Problems. The teeth are the soul to your health. Poor nutrition as
one grows up poor teeth!!!

The first thing I did is get my wife a full medical examine complete with full blood panel. She was anemic
and had other health problems. (16 years ago)

Because of her poor nutrition when she was growing up she is now comprised health wise. Her immune
system is NOT GOOD.

Some RWs are amazons as can be seen from Russian Women who excel in athletics but these women
are well trained and well fed. Not common in the 80s or 90s from what I saw over there.

So what is my point here.................... and I am certain I am going to get alot of FLACK here on this like
hey it depends on the women...........

Well anyone living over there pre-2000 can clearly see there were real problems with food, nutrition and medical services. So that said it pays to be informed when going over there about the poor health.

My 2 cents get a full medical exam on the RW BEFORE you bring her over......................you do not want medical problems as well as damaged goods. (See my post on damaged goods)

It is best to avoid hospitals if one is healthy.

Sure, my wife needed dental work, but we have a good dentist and we have been doing it over many years. I have $1,500 per person on my health plan at work for dental work, and over the past 8 years we have used this to address all and any dental issues my wife had. Money out of pocket for me: less than $100.

My wife and I go for bike rides together and snowshoeing and walks. Nothing really major here.

Again, if you let the dentist do all the work immediately, of course they will do as much as possible and bill you  If you work with them to develop a plan that fits a dental plan, then it need not be catastrophic.

Damaged goods?!? Most health problems can be addressed in my experience. Unless someone has an incurable disease or condition, then it is possible to deal with any and all issues without treating a woman as if she is potentially "damaged goods."  :-X

Anyone being sponsored to Canada gets a full medical examination, and the results are sent to London UK for analysis. Let's hope your decades long diet with GMO foods, and endless chemical additives has you still in good health.

ShyCat, you tend to put all women from FSU in same boat.
My Wife is in better health than I am and I work-out, eat right, play sports.
But so does she. Her teeth are good, maybe few small things,
I have spent a fortune on mine.

She is a person, I didn't open mouth or expect full medical
on my first date. Wonder why your getting a divorce  :duh:

What scares me, is your thinking of going back, after several
threads of nothing but Criticism   ???

We are friends with several AM/RW couples who married many years ago and dental care was a considerable expense upon arriving, but I believe the days of bad dentistry in the FSU are mostly a thing of the past. My wife has nice teeth and was actually appalled with the archaic methods the dentists here in the US are using compared to her dentist in Ukraine. Anyways, dental expenses are a cost that can occur for any number of reasons genetics, diet, habits and lifestyle.

My jaw dropped when I read the first post.  :o

Poor nutrition in the FSU? Not well fed? Oh yes, in Russia we generally have not seen McDonalds, french fries, genetically modified food, or soda. Instead, we used to eat the homegrown fruits and vegetables, natural berry drinks, and homemade meals. Zero artificial additions. Gazyfied drinks were consumed a few times per year. This might have led to a situation that we don't have many fat people around.

Is that really what you would call 'poor diet'? Isn't it the reason why there are so many obese people in America?

Poor health generallly? This might vary from individual to individual. However, those who managed to survive in the harsch conditions, to avoid alcoholism or similar bad habits, must have really good genes. Healthy parents produce healthy kids.

Poor dental care? in some corners of Russia, may be, but if I had a choice, I'd definitely go to Russia to do my teeth or any expensive medical treatments. Through references, I know good Russian dentists and other medical specialists. They would cost me much less than if I'd do similar medical treatment in Canada, and I will be getting either the same of even better quality.

I'm with you on that, Belle.

One can make a case about nutrition in the "wild West" days immediately following the end of the CCCP. Some readers will remember "Bush's legs" (chicken sent via USAid) and there were pockets of hunger and malnutrition during that time of change and radical adjustment to life in a fledgling market economic system.

However in a broader sense the large numbers of dacha gardens have provided a wealth of organic produce and fruits. Dacha gardens were so prolific that the Soviets could double and sometimes even triple their potato harvest projections just by including estimates of private dacha production.

We have a family dacha outside Volgograd with a large garden and fruit trees where we garden everything from tomatoes and cucumbers to squash and radishes to potatoes and eggplant. Fruits include strawberries, apricots, peaches and cherries in our situation.

At the end of summer you can see family after family returning home on the trains carrying homemade jams from fruit, bags of potatoes along with cucumbers, eggplant, peppers and tomatoes, etc. We generally travel there by car these days and commonly make two carloads in late August because of all the canning that was done in summer for ourselves and close relatives.

You are right about the general absence of junk food as McDonald's was a Canadian import and most of the rest have been American imports. (For readers who think I'm mistaken about McDonald's being a Canadian import--it was the McDonald's of Canada corporation that introduced McDonald's to Russia and not the American corporation.)

We can blame KFC on the Russians because a company known as Rostik's somehow got the Colonel's secret recipe and was doing quite nicely with it long before KFC had to buy out Rostik's in order to get their product back, but the rest from Baskin Robbins to Duncan Donuts to Burger King to Krispy Kreme to Wendy's have been American imports. Stardogs is somewhat of an exception as it has a common ancestry with Nathan's Hotdogs via Jewish families formerly from Russia who immigrated to NYC.

Pepsi and Fanta are the only American junk foods with history in the FSU prior to the period close to the collapse of the Soviet Union. Correct me if wrong, Belle, but water with gas has been around a long time in Russia.

You are right. In the USSR, we had 'citro Buratino', the green 'Tarkhun', the pear taste 'Duchesse', dark colored 'Baikal' and 'Sayany'. I loved bubbles, however, to my memory, there were consumed mostly on the big dates like birthday or New Year. Not sure why; may be due to its cost or their rare appearance in the stores.

This is a Soviet machine that sold gazifyed water

I have yet to add to my TR, however, I did in fact meet 1 out of the number I met, who definitely seemed frail and not in good health.  Another seemed so-so, with very papery skin, but all the others were in tip-top physical shape.

I met the fragile one two times, and another girl who was the same height or shorter, yet, the one seemed very fragile and weak; and the other girl was slim but also in very very good shape, impressively so considering her diet was vegetarian with fish.

Can't say as I have ever really noticed any real health issues different than what you might find here. A couple of small dental issues and a bout with a hormone imbalance. Other than that all is well.  Same with any of the Numerous Russians I know in the area.

There is no question that the chance your wife (or her children) will have dental issues is almost a certainty.  Preventative dental care prior to 2005 or so was not generally practiced or affordable.  Since that time affordable western dental procedures have become more available to the general population.

AK Mike I have no idea how many times you have been over there to FSUs or how many Russian friends you have. I have been over there to many times to count, lived there and have many Ukraine and Russian friends being married to one for over 16 years now. I retired when I married and had the time to extensively travel to Russian and to Europe. Not working, being retired allowed me to view Russia and the whole set of problems over there and the problems are extensive.

Health problems are some of the worse I have seen in Russia being that they should be a "Modern Country"
A friend of mine there is a very good surgeon and worked in the US for awhile to get REAL TRAINING that he
did not get in Russia. He now has gone home to Russia but he sends me emails of terrible Hospital Stories
in Russian and he sees them daily.

On the health of women there> the health care system prior to 2000 was extremely poor and still is problematic...............any one here says it is not a problem obviously has not been over there for any time or knows any Russian physicians or nurses. I know to many FSU women here that have all kinds of health problems.  Bad teeth is just part of the problem. My wife has other health problems as well.

My comments are directly related to health of the people there and the health care system there. If you do find a women who has good teeth and healthy you just got lucky.................

Unless the women has comes from a well off family and has their own western trained physician which cost
money then they are indeed fortunate. My point was strictly on the poor health care system there and the
health of the people who do not get good health care.

You have stated >

" There's no damaged goods to report and I suggest that you take a look from the other side of the mirror for these damaged goods. It might surprise you at the view."

Again my comments on DAMAGED GOODs have to do with the poor health care and people there that receive poor care and this can clearly damage them health wise over a prolonged period of time. My comments have nothing to do with the emotional or mental qualities whatsoever.

However in the mid-90's it was a struggle in Russian for a medical health care for most Russians. My wife almost died in a Russian Hospital as well as many other Russians I have talked to. They say NEVER go into a Russian Hospital pre-2000 or even now.

Directing your comments toward me as looking at the mirror as far as my health or physical characteristics
are concerned.

I was a professional Athlete and competing all over the world. I have no health problems and also no physical problems because I was never injured during competition. So there is no damaged goods here physically with me. My comments do not even go into the emotional and psychological problems in FSU
and I am not going to open that can of corrupt worms.

I will not even request or suggest that you take a look at the mirror yourself.  What real nonsense and your comments directed at me shows your true colors.
