K-1 Visa Service
« on: July 15, 2011, 10:47:08 AM »

Ok, I know most will say why use a service/lawyer for a K-1 when you can do it yourself.  After going over my details and my Mrs. details, I think it would be best to have a little help along the way in the form of a service/lawyer who is more knowledgeable then ourselves. Among the plethora of services on the net, I came across one that I keep going back to, http://www.easyfiancevisa.com/russian-ukraine-k1.html ... curious to know if anyone else has had any experiences with them. They check out with BBB, US Gov. and a few other services that would normally be blowing the proverbial whistle on fraudulent companies in this field and there sure are a lot of them.

Advice on the above company or other services would be appreciated. For the record I have used the recommended services of visajourney.com and while informative, it just doesn't provide the one-one attention I need.

Their site mentions a "certified immigration consultant" - I would question what that means, if anything.  It doesn't seem like you are being guaranteed the services of a lawyer.  It's a little strange to me they "specialize" in the FSU only, but I guess it's marketing..

If you're willing to, what do you believe are the special issues that might warrant a lawyer (and again, I would confirm this one is actually going to offer any "special" legal advice, versus just having the legal clerk/secretary fill out most of the forms, and a "specialist" answering some questions by checklist, etc..) ?

I've yet to hear of a case where using a lawyer or "specialist" was faster, although I have no doubt that it is more convenient, especially to get some questions answered, and they certainly should make sure the packet/paperwork is done properly.

I'm sure you're right in that this site/service is marketing themselves better then what there actual services are. I plan on calling them on Monday or Tuesday to get into the actual logistics of their services and what puts them atop of the food chain.

As to the who, where, what and why of our situation... paper work on her side is going to be tricky as she is missing some documents that are proving to be difficult to procure. She spent some time in Turkey and is not able to come up with the proper official papers that says she was a good girl and stayed out trouble. She also has an anomaly with her Russian birth certificate and also another grey area with her Russian paper work. I too come with a touch of grey in regards to financial aspects, so when we couple all of this together, there's too much grey for my liking and I feel more at ease placing our situation in more competent hands... whether that's the service listed above remains to be seen but I don't feel good about doing this on my own, too much to go wrong, in my opinion.
