There is new law about Russian passports, from the 1/04/09 they have to be issued withing 3 months.

The Russian Consulate here in Texas will issue a renewed passport in one day. The application paperwork has to be correct, (typed, not hand printed), with an acceptable passport photo, fee paid by Bank Money Order, but you apply in the morning and pick up the passport the same afternoon.

easy-peasy...

even if a person has registration-propiska in Russia and not with consulate? That new rule is very important for people with registration in Russia, because before that time frame was up to 6 months, now they have to do the same job in just 3.

For the attention of Russian Nationals residing in the UK! Russian National Tourist Office provides service of renewing Russian international passports.

Вниманию граждан России, проживающих в Великобритании! Российский Национальный Туристический Офис оказывает услуги по оформлению российских загранпаспортов (ОЗП).

More information here, in Russian language.

Please don't use the link Olya posts for the UK... no offence intended...

WHY? We did and the application form wasn't linked to an appointment database !! One wasted trip to London :(

Was the address Mr Batmanov - at the consulate gave us after I played merry hell

If you are registered in the UK - the international passport took two weeks - if registered in Russia - 2 months...

Thanks WO, we applied just BEFORE the 01/04/09 - I'm not sure the Russians knew the new rules... but the UK system seemed to be automated and efficient.. lot's of printing of forms - once the on line applications were completed. Mr Batmanov, at the consulate claimed the UK was one of the first to be on the new system !

The system seems much better than the UK or IRL passport application process !

You are talking about Batmanov and guessing if he knew new Russian laws? ;D Isn't he working for Russian consulate? Ru consulate works by Russian law, not UK law. It doesn't matter if you applied before 1-st of April, many people here did as well, but their paper work was returned and they had to go to consulate in person. That is basically the main change - you can't apply for passport renewal by post, you have to do it in person. All forms should be the same, but I always check them on official website before I fill anything out

Unfortunately, you're right. I got stuck in the middle of this change. As a result, I lost $$$, cos I already had our tickets for the flight to Russia.  >:(

if they took papers to consulate by themselves this new system shouldn't affect them at all, because as I said there are only 2 changes, you can't apply by post and all passports regardless where they are registered has to be changed within 3 months

I live in the UK and I'm a British national. My Russian wife's internal passport comes up for renewal this year, 2011 - she will be 45.

1) Does she need to renew it in the district where she lived in Russia?
2) Does she need to it in the town/city where she lived in Russia?
3) How much is the fine if it is not renewed in 2011?
4) Does the fine increase in subsequent years?

Thanks in advance -  СПАСИБО

She can renew it in your Russian consulate.

Don't know anything about the fine but I'm assuming there will be one if she won't do it on time. In Au they will make you to prove that you are still a citizen and it cost $130 and takes more than 6 months.

She can find all her answers here http://www.rus.rusemb.org.uk/consulate/

I know my wife's passport will expire in July 2011.

To get a new one she has to complete a bunch of forms on the embassy web page and pay $420.  The process is said to take between 4 and 6 months.
