[note by Manny - I split this off so as not to detract from the excellent post I/O made on the topic, so we can discuss Convicts, Kangaroos & Barbies here  ;D]

Hey I/O thanks for the great skinny man. I think the section Mod should make it a sticky ;D

Don:  I will come back to this and tidy it up a little when I have time, but it will give the freshman a basic overview for the moment. Sorry I threw it together in about 10 minutes. ::)

Excellent info, I/O. No need for tidying that I can see. You appear to have done a splendid job. Congrats!

I must say that your procedures seem extraordinarily draconian compared to the Mother Country. Rozzer checks, health checks and lengthy interrogations? Astounding! And this from a country we shipped all our ne'er-do-wells and malcontents to just a short while ago.
 ;D

You have given me a new found respect for those FSU women who elect to date an Aussie and the Aussies who are brave and determined enough to successfully navigate their way through this minefield of Kafkaesque bureaucracy. We truly have it easy in Blighty -- see thread which I have/will be adding re the UK procedure.

Yes GG I know of quite a few Aussies who have been through hell for no real and/or legitimate reasons just to get their spouses into Aus other than that of shear pig headedness of the Aus Immigration  ???

I can well believe it. We truly have it easy. OTOH, we have Chairman Bliar and the Borg Collective, so it's swings and roundabouts really.

G/G: Yeah it's a pretty tough row to hoe if ya wanna get in here.  But ya see, after all you stiffupperlippedpricks sent all your second rate crooks over, a few of us with superior blood, IE Deutz blood saw a good opportunity and sailed in free of charge and scooped the spoils. ;D

I take pleasure in reminding any "Pom" that I don't have a drop of their putrid blood in me. ;D Shcit I'm good, just ask me. ::) ::)

On topic: Well I have been back to clean a few things up since the initial post and I hope the mods leave the modify option open for a while so I can add a few things as the come to mind.  I'm working pretty much from memory right now.  One could write for hours about the idiosincrecies of our visa processes, but I think for the sake of here, it is enough for the freshman to get an overview.

I don't think we should be dolling out hard advices as such on these sites.  The hard information is available from the websites and I firmly believe that anyone considering this should consult an immigration lawyer.  I don't say they should use one for the entire process, but getting the "Legal Heads Up" simply has no downside.

Anyway,  just to add some weight to the argument, I thought I'd post a copy of the new Australian immigration policy.  See below.

Very Australian of you. Rather reminds me of this rib-tickling tale from Down Under which shows what complete prats the British are. I can say that because there's actually very little Pommy blood in me.

Hey listen guys, we are talking about Aussies here not sheepshaggingkiwis.  New Zealand, a land where men are men and sheep are nervous.

But then again, who would wonder with a name like "New" Zealand.  I've long wondered where and the hell "Old" Zealand or just "Zealand" is? Ahhhhh doesn't matter anyway, they are only "South Sea Island Poms". ;D ;D ;D
