At last we are starting to win something

2 x Golds and 2 x Bronze today in the rowing and cycling.

Not a bad week for Wiggins, Tour de France win and now a Gold medal.

   Today marks the final showing of Winnipeg's Clara Hughes. At 39 years of age she has decided to retire. Quite a remarkable athlete, competing in both the summer and winter games.
  I couldn't imagine what pedalling at 45kmh would be like, as the best I can muster is probably half that speed unless I'm in high gear going down a steep slope!

Tour operators, hotels, businesses and entertainment in parts of London well away from the Olympics are in a slump that will mean no profits and even losses while the Olympics are in town.

Hotels trying to extort multiples of normal rates are big offenders. A fair price-- even if it represented an increase  would be acceptable if it reflected the market-- but not huge increases a year in advance of the event.

This article goes even further. Tourist attractions such as London Zoo, St. Paul's Cathedral, Westminster Abbey and the British Museum are reporting a drop in attendance. Hotels have had to cut prices because bookings have dropped so much. High end London restaurants are reporting double digit drops in bookings. If you want to go to London in the next 10 days you can probably get a deal.

                                  --- Girls rowing coach is Australian -- that was UK's  1st gold and they beat Aussie crew into 2nd.  NZ= 3rd---- so an all Commonwealth affair with the children backing up the mother country!!

                                  --- Girls rowing coach is Australian -- that was UK's  1st gold and they beat Aussie crew into 2nd.  NZ= 3rd---- so an all Commonwealth affair with the children backing up the mother country!!

Many countries around the World are using Aussie coaches, they have been poached by offering a better deal, from what I hear in Aus there is uproar about it and people are saying the Aussies should start paying their best coaches the market rate  to stay at home.
