Talk > The Adventure Begins
Some questions before I commit to this whole idea
Larry:
--- Quote --- I am from Sydney were we have an extremely prudish and stuck up society, most girls no matter who you are will snob off any blind advance but if you do succeed in getting a number your chances of a date are good > 70%. What confused me in Ukraine was I felt I could get most girls numbers, I flirted heavily with the girl I met on the plane who was coming back from meeting her BF in Italy and my luck just continued from there, my get-number rate was a surprising 90% knocked back by a model and a girl who didnt speak english and was already with a guy at the club. But on the downside I am no longer in contact with any of these women, of the 3 girls I tried to stay in contact with none returned my SMS or Email, I am wondering if this is normal, I mean easy to get numbers, hard to keep her interested?

I second AvHdB's recommendation that you read ChristianV's trip report "I'm now in Odessa, Ukraine". Christian is a Dutch guy who discovered exactly the same thing about Dutch girls that you observed about girls in Sydney. And when he moved to Ukraine he found that gorgeous girls would seldom freeze him out but would be happy to talk to him and give him their numbers. Unfortunately, he also found that the huge majority of these girls would flake on him. They would do things such as return his calls a month later, etc.
--- Quote ---2) Due to having a very big choice as well as the ease of having communication access to a lot of people it spoils both partys for choice and so both raise their standards and any success can sometimes feel like an outcome of lowered expectations.
4) lack of physical chemistry (With phermones out of the equation, and no eye contact, body language etc) at the start, greatly skews judgement.
5) Due to points 2 and 4 it becomes a calculated experience involving a 20 questions or speed dating style thing which can leave some people a bit sour.
--- End quote ---
I've noticed this too with online dating in the US. I don't know about guys, but girls have become incredibly more picky than they were before the advent of online dating. Most of us have been through the "job interview" type date, where you are politely interrogated to make sure that you have all the qualifications to merit a second date. They know that if you don't meet all of their 457 bullet point checklist they'll have thousands more profiles to choose from.
The more efficient girls will do a phone interview before consenting to possibly waste an hour of their time. And one even sent me six or seven essay questions before even going to the phone with me. Each of these questions would take 15 minutes or so to answer. I had to prepare dinner for my daughters so I decided to write my answers after dinner. Two hours later I got a message from her saying, "Oh well, I guess you don't want to answer those questions". It's a grueling process, very much akin to a job search.
And people wonder why guys look for a wife in FSU!

I am also in the position of considering of whether to commit to this adventure or not, though I would definitely correspond before traveling...too much to lose, to little to gain otherwise in my opinion, which probably does not count for much at this point in the "game". CM

There are genuine marriage agencies in Ukraine, saves you time, money and misery !

I spoke to my Sage(you could say an advisor) today about marrying a Russian/FSU women and he supported the idea so I have fully decided to go ahead with it and put aside money and work out the rules and such for my country, the social norms in Russia and the endeavour in general, I WILL do correspondence but also open to meet new women while I am there, I guess yearly trips will be in the works my current biggest challenge is finding someone to go with until I am comfortable with navigating foreign land where I cant speak the language, I might learn Russian, time is on my side.
I have no idea on the acronyms used here and urban dictionary dont have them listed (someone should probably add them) but I am going with the approach of not keeping all my eggs in one basket, also a bit of a stock investment strategy of spanning multiple areas such as not just sticking to the (supposedly preferable??) east side of Russia.
Taking the advice here I will exclude Kiev, Odessa, Moscow and St Petersberg.
So now I am set to invest some time in research here starting with the does and donts and red flags.

Welcome. I'd exclude Odessa for certain and likely Kiev. Moscow and St Petersburg are different animals these days. The ladies in Russia generally don't have the financial need to find a Western man.
