Some questions before I commit to this whole idea
HeartInTheEast:
I have just come back from overseas where I spent 5 days in Kiev, I found the women there a lot more attractive both in appearance and more importantly demeanour and the way they flirt just swept me away.
I did not do any research before I left, I went for the Euro and put no pressure on myself to do any dating, it was impossible anyhow as I found the girls were very busy with work to meet up in such a short amount of time.
So on to the questions:
1stly a question regarding culture, I am from Sydney were we have an extremely prudish and stuck up society, most girls no matter who you are will snob off any blind advance but if you do succeed in getting a number your chances of a date are good > 70%. What confused me in Ukraine was I felt I could get most girls numbers, I flirted heavily with the girl I met on the plane who was coming back from meeting her BF in Italy and my luck just continued from there, my get-number rate was a surprising 90% knocked back by a model and a girl who didnt speak english and was already with a guy at the club. But on the downside I am no longer in contact with any of these women, of the 3 girls I tried to stay in contact with none returned my SMS or Email, I am wondering if this is normal, I mean easy to get numbers, hard to keep her interested?
2nd question is regarding safety: I came during the Euro, so plenty of police and other foreigners, I stayed in a small radius near Arena never travelling by myself or through dark allies. The clearly sociopathic taxi driver we had one night posed no harm and the police officer whom I completely failed, despite clear gestures to communicate my enquiry about the legality of drinking in public seemed amused and welcoming to the novelty of probably the 1st Australian he had encountered.
I am wondering how different things will be if I return, particularly regarding safety on the street.
3rd, the women: What is the attraction to foreigners? Is it mainly novelty, wealth, wanting to leave the country? If I am looking to travel 1st then date (I am not considering correspondence 1st) should I even consider Kiev, I was surprised to encounter one girl who seemed to have a very westernised attitude and demeanour.

Generalisations! The world is not that different-- many of the answers are as they look. You could try a few more times and see.If you are intent you could try sending flowers.See if that creates response.I would say girls are more conservative( despite everything you may read) and have their own ideas on how a relationship should proceed. They definitely expect a guy to make the running. I am guessing that they do not take your interest as anything but a passing interest and that they probably did not expect to hear from you again.
Safety--depending on your own experience and ability to merge into local scene( eg carrying a back pack
adorned with national flag is a no no !!) and look like a local --it should be safe.I have travelled all over Ukraine ,spent time in Kiev and Odessa-- and quite a number of smaller cities and towns without any more problems than you would expect at home( except for the Police themselves!! and a couple of instances where drunk young guys were not happy about me being with younger girls).I have seen some fierce fights and a few all in brawls as a bystander.Other than that-- all the normal rules of security and safety should get you by.
3rd Question-I made the observation that most girls in Ukraine are too sophisticated for many men looking there- relate that to urban Australia big city compared to Mt Isa -huge difference in guys attitudes. Education level is quite high and knowledge would embarrass many-- so it is important not to underestimate Ukraine girls. The wider part of your question is covered in many threads on this forum-- there is not a simple answer-- but many things to consider.
One last point--to reiterate-- if you want to succeed-- you must show that you are serious. Girls know of sex tourists, horror stories abound and it is a hurdle that has to be jumped-- that is-- establish YOUR credibility.

Ukraine invested some money in the roads and stadiums. Most of the money was spent on charm schools for the eligble young women. According to some the #1 export product of Ukraine is females.

There is a thread called I am in Odessa now. I would read this in that many of your comments will find ressonance in this thread. OK the bloke, a Cloggie, who wrote this seems to have gone under ground - but the impressions and lessons make the read worthwhile.

If you use common sense you will be fine. Yes there are things that one should not do, such as give the bird to a policeman or puke over his boots shit faced. But if you do not attract attention to your self you will be barely noticed in a large city. In a small town the situation changes and you will be observed with curiousity.

Did the young lady bite?
The world is round and in Ukraine there is free and unfettered internet access. Information tends to spin around and get disseminated. Ukraine in some respects has a far greater Western yearning than Russia. Further the women are certain that men from Down Under, Western Europe, Canada and most of America have average willies that are 15 cms long and wallets that are 10cms fat with $ & € bills that start with 2 zeroes.
I would read allot of the threads on RUA and think what are your goals and ambitions when you have the answers the rest will be easier. Off course the buck shot approach does manage to down a bird.
andrewfi:
Many experienced travellers will tell you that wherever they go that they find the women more attractive, receptive etc etc and that they feel that they became more attractive overnight.
Those same people will also tell you that after a while in the new place their attractiveness dropped off, women were less receptive and, strangely, the women become less attractive.
The question to ask if this is true (and experience suggests that both the observations above ARE true) is this: Are the differences I observed due to me or to the people around me?
And the answer is a simple one: The changes you noted are a result of your own attitudes and demeanour.
In your case a clue might be in respect of your observations about women in your home country. The chance that they are an accurate and general representation of women there are somewhere close to zero. The reactions you perceive are a reaction to YOU and when you travelled you were exhibiting somewhat changed social responses.
Also, of course, you were, in a five day trip only ever going to meet women who had made conscious choice to be available to people like yourself - strangers new in town looking for company. Around here, one tends to be a tad cautious of those women who are fluent Italian speakers - it reflects certain choices to adapt to the needs of a particular market - it helps that the weather is nice in Italy and it is fashionable among reasonably well off Italians to have a 'Russian' girlfriend, that there are plenty of strip clubs and brothels specialising in importing 'Russian' women and that Italians tend to be much less good at speaking English than people in other European countries.

Along these lines I also would wonder if a Ukrainian or Russian woman mentioned that she spent some time in Turkey and knew the language, what her back ground is/was.
I have an acquaintance who I sail with, he went with me to a museum and was stunned to look for the first time at abstract art. It confused and excited him simultaneously. He wanted to see more, in itself absolutely great. I suggested perhaps at first try to get some back ground so he understands better what he is looking at. My guess you are at my crews stage with regards to Slavic women as he is with modern art.
