The local version is Odnoklassniki. They are all on that it seems. If they are not on Odnoklassniki they are on vkontakte.

She doesn't have a Facebook or a Myspace now because she had too many creeps hitting on her. She has had issues with Odnoklassniki too and now has an "approved friends only" profile I gather.

Free social sites of all types have pests and predators. Of course paid ones do too but there are several reasons why pests and predators are less of an issue on paid sites than free ones.

Whether malefactors are a problem or not, outside of the annoyance factor, is an issue of the personality of the site user. I have seen truly horrendous outcomes when a person who was susceptible to abuse was hooked by a predator who sought out and groomed women of the type he was seeking. Most people would simply have ignored or reported them but the receptive targets, they do not.

The warnings about social sites are not given for no reason.

If your wife is lonely, bored and isolated then these sites can be pernicious. I'd suggest that, within reason, your social accounts not be entirely a matter of secrecy, share gossip, stories and photos as you sit together. Two people on two laptops sitting on the sofa.

Actually this is why on ANY site with a community setting, be it a dating site or a more open ended sort of thing, if another member is behaving inappropriately it is very important to report that member, ignoring them is not strong enough. Usually there is little or no active moderation.

What he said, my wife is on both the Russian sites, but she does not visit that often, and she has even had to block some former lady acquaintances on there that seem to have some sort of jealousy issues for whatever reason (:)
