Hi guys,

wondering if indeed no-one has posted about it yet (too busy with arranging flowers for your RWs, I guess... (:) ) - or have I missed that post?

Leaving Russia is not an immigration, rather an evacuation.

I wonder if they will sing with England's heartthrob at the Eurovision.

There must be a strong possibility that he wont live that long .....

That's what I thought. I mean, he was old when I was a kid.

Well, they actually got through to the final.

And, useless bit of trivia, the replica of the oven that they had on stage was what I was trying to describe in my post about a stay in a Russian village some time ago:-

Inside the dacha some rooms were wallpapered and some rooms just had the same bare wood from the day that the house was built.  The heating was from a very large brick or masonry oven in the kitchen, I understand that this is a very traditional form of heating in old houses.

Well, they ended up coming second to Sweden.

To be frank, I didn't think all that much of the Swedish entry - it was ok, but nothing special.  Certainly not another Abba.

I was rooting for the Greek entry, but they didn't do too well.  I thought the song was nice, but perhaps it was the singer that really caught my attention - at least I'm honest enough to admit it.

As to other FSU countries, Azerbaijan came 4th, Moldova was 11th and Ukraine 15th.

The UK just avoided propping up the table and there was no country - for the benefit of Ade not even Norway - that ended the evening with ''null points''.

For the benefit of Yanks and Aussies reading this ''null points'' should be pronounced in a French accent.

The Russians were great :)

We were both cheering for Sweden. Definitely the best act even if she's a little weird. Pity Norway muffed it but he didn't deserve such a bad reception. And what was that with the two headed Albanian? I mean really, she managed to get into the final? Gob smacked.  :o

I was interested that they pledged some prize money for building a new church in their village according to NDT television.
