After meeting her, and a half dozen her size, I changed my profile to say, "If you are larger than a size eight - ten at a push - please *don't* contact me" (For our pals over the pond, these are UK dress sizes not US ones which differ). After that, I started getting hate mail from fat women.

You were brave to do that! I have considered many times how to say something similar-but the idea of justifying my attitude to all and sundry does not appeal.
Ironically for many years--my standard was a s-6 (EU not US!!) which was the only size that could fit in the rear seats of my cars!!

The point here is that, in general, women are the source of lot more unrealistic expectations of feminine form than are men.

Having read the entire thread first I will say I am not a small guy - and it seems that in many situations in life - coming to a door, stepping out of a car in a traffic incident - otherwise tough guys have actually jumped back in fear - In business I have tried to compensate for this scary look by being immediately friendly and jolly to calm people down.  That said for some reason I tend to be a magnet for big girls - NOT fat obese girls but just big girls 5'6" to 6'0" with size 8 to 14 range... most would be described here as "curvy" meaning large breasted nice waist and child bearing hips.  One trait these ladies tend to have is that most are normally quite pleasant and jolly and fun to be around in more ways than one...  one lady who was fun actually had a breast reduction, her surgeon was a modern day leonardo-michelangelo of plastic surgeons - her breasts after surgery were magnificent and perfectly symmetrical and still not small at least 38 D - she said she was so large before that when she jogged it would hurt her back - she did not make it as wife material because she did not like to get semen on her skin as she would get an allergic rash  ? and she was a true psychic - considering I had a lot of clients then in the big dig construction business at the time it was also a bit too dangerous to date her as most of these guys were not boy scouts and were very tough businessmen of Irish Jewish and Italian extraction...   NEXT another lady was a size 12 plus sized model who was fun, jolly and loved sex and was frugal with money a great saver except for 3 days a month when she proved PMS was not an excuse but scary reality - we were driving down the highway at about 75 with her in the drivers seat - and suddenly she just started crying and put her head in the steering wheel!!!

Scared the bejeezus out of me and after we got back I asked her how her other boyfriends dealt with her PMS and she said not well - I said add me to that club I could only imagine her with a few kids pulling that same stunt and me having to go to a funeral for her and the kids - NEXT - of one ladies who was particularly jolly was also the most endowed women I had ever seen who was not a burger king feed fatty - the lady chased after me and was a fun sexy provocative women but her breasts were each larger than basketballs and nearly the size of a medium beach ball and she had a sexy waist and child bearing hips and a cute face - so having remembered about the other woman who had the breast reduction - I just figured that if I married this well endowed lady - if we had daughters - they would just hate me so NEXT.

What I like now in my wise old years is a cute face first - why - a cute face almost always leads to a cute positive bubbly jolly personality and easy to live with way about her - unfortunately life can be harsh on an ugly person and they tend to develop ugly troll like personalities that no one wants to deal with - and then there is the matter of the GAP - I love a two to 3 inch gap between the upper thighs area - I am a big guy and I need some room to maneuver  - the ladies in the photos above from the small sizes up to and including the sexy size 14 lass all have a cute face and a warm healthy glow (to beget warm healthy children) and a very nice 2 inch + gap between their thighs making them perfect in every possible way 

Where as the size 16+ gals have lost the "GAP" factor...   

I once explained my GAP preference to a good old Cowboy Harley Rider from Texas and he said he now officially hates me because I ruined his life - I said how's that - he said now whenever his behind a lady on an escalator or climbing stairs or walking the street he just can't help but notice if every lady he passes - passes the GAP test and that he does not even bother looking at their faces any more!!

I totally agree with you here - and a cute face is likely to remain a cute face into old age.

I think that I must have been doing this subconsciously as well because the moment I read your description I realised that that is what I think about as well as the cute face.

I didn't read the entire thread... just the first page and the last page. I'm not a big guy... 5'7 or so and 135 pounds but I'm more attracted to a woman that appears happy with herself, excess weight or no excess weight. A woman with curves is always more desirable in my eyes than a woman without and I wouldn't call the women on the first page or this page obese, fat or even really heavy.

I would go after the girl on the first page in a heartbeat even if she was fully clothed. She appears happy and I think she'd be a lot of fun to get to know.

You're the only other guy I've known who uses the collarbone test.  I think it's  a good predictor that the girl is much less likely to be obese in years to come.  And if you use it plus the other standard tests: the ankle/wrist test, the mother test, etc., you are even more likely to make good predictions of FF (future fatness).  I would add another test conveyed to me by a friend of mine some years ago.  He was dating a 19 year old who had what I would call a voluptuous build.  His theory was that if she was already voluptuous by the time she was 19, she was likely to be fat when she was 30.   

This is akin to Manny's advice early in the thread that it's wise to find a girl who's 5 kgs under the size that is ideal for you, because it's highly likely that she will put on 5 kgs in the future.  I assume his suggestion is for FSUW.  For AW, you'll wish it were only 5 kgs she will put on.

As slumba correctly says above, I think that it's a quick shortcut to describe a body type when she is walking down the street - not really a comment about how wide she has to spread her legs.

But this talk of body types reminded me of an entry on a blog that I always find amusing called Doodlemum.

It's done by a professional illustrator who is a mum of three children and instead of writing about her life each day she does an illustration.

Her work has been likened a few times to  that of Quentin Blake - most people will know him as the illustrator of the Roald Dahl books.
