Asking Gal about working once she arrives (and is settled)

Dudefella:
Speaking of frugality, I'm in a new stage of my life that involved cutting expenses. I've shed the house and the car, and I'm living like a bum out of two bags, which is not all that bad since I only have to find a place to stay when I'm not at work (3 nights every 2 weeks), and work flies me out anywhere I want as long as I pay the difference. I gave my car to my little sister (she's only 17, and a good kid) since I wasn't needing it, and just recently broke my lease because I wasn't getting the value out of my rent. So now I'm just flying around, seeing friends and family on my days off, racking up frequent flyer miles, and making the most of being young and unencumbered.

I guess it's strange to see money come into my bank, and not leave it unless I spend it, nothing is worse than thinking you have money and then losing it because you forgot about direct debits, rent, car payments, registration, utilities, insurances. I've always liked my 'stuff', big TV's, Xbox, sound system, but I've had to let it all go (and when I did, it was during an emotional friendship and co-habitation breakdown that gave me the short end of the stick). I will build up my 'stuff' again, but I'm definitely going to do it when I own a house, not when I'm at the mercy of real estate inspections and living with a bunch of other people you have to rely on not to break down the walls and get a black smear against your name.

This works for me because of my living situation with work, and I pay for it in other ways, but I'm such a minority any advice I give is just anecdotal, so I'll just keep it as a 'this is how not keeping up with the Joneses' is working for me.

Dudefella, Had to laugh I have lived close to this for about 10 years now, Even after I retired, I wanted to travel and could see no point in having a house and most of the "stuff", as after I got divorced I was never there!
I got a travail trailer and hit the road, this has changed only a little since starting with GF, as she is ready to sell her town house and hit the road with me, we are both free spirits, love the out doors and seeing new places, meeting new people.
Had one Russian gal tell me " think you will have hard time to find woman" LOL
So true, but happend any way.
we are both in our 50's and have decided to maximise our quality of life, by minimising our possesins. We are now dedicated tourists and snow birds.
As stated over and over here, take the time to find "the one", she will be exactly where you are, then the 2 of you can "plan" your life together.

@ Scott, that was meant to be a joking  remark, few understand better then me the variety of individual thoughts and personality's. I will not quit my day job to be a comedian.
Glad you cleared that up for the others that did not get it.

--- Quote from: Bud E on June 18, 2011, 04:12:15 PM ---  Let’s get real, most of the women receive University educations in the Ukraine and Russia. Bottom line is that their earned University degrees such as Doctor, Lawyer, Engineer and Accountant are worthless pieces of paper here in the USA & Canada. Lack of English language skills accentuates their problems to find suitable work in their area of discipline. Many people living in the FSU countries don’t even work at jobs that they studied at in school.

N has a Russian University Degree as an Accountant.  Her transcript was evaluated and she was given credit for a Masters Degree.  She went to school here and added CPA to her name.  Now she's the Comptroller for a small (~$100M) multi-company conglomerate oil field service/Engineering company.

I wouldn't exactly call her Russian University Degree a worthless piece of paper.
