A new airline booking site you might find useful--Hipmunk
« on: January 04, 2011, 12:32:16 PM »
I ran into this one today: www.hipmunk.com

It's an airline scheduling and booking site with a very intuitive, innovative interface. I have not yet compared the prices to other sites, but the impression I get is that it is highly competitive.

I was pretty well up and running with its use in about five minutes, max. An excellent, graphical comparison of journey times and layover places and times allows you to compare the options easily and quickly.

I'll be interested in hearing what others think--so far, I am impressed.

I just checked some flights (with Lufthansa) and they looked very cheap compared to what I have paid recently, not sure if they will let us book being UK based,  but my wife will interrogate the site later  :chuckle:

I like the interface.  Thanks for the link.

Funny. I checked the site at work and it informed me I had an old browser and it may not show properly. If I have any problems with the website "please do your search with Orbitz."

I had no problems looking for flights. I bit cheaper than Orbitz.

Does anyone know of anyone that has actually booked with them, the site is very easy to navigate and prices seem cheap on the face of it, but there is a serious lack of contact information on the site, the only way of contacting them is via an email, all links just open up your email account so you can send them a message. No physical address, no telephone numbers  :(

I tried looking at several different flights both across the Atlantic and within Europe.

Each time, when you click on the link to buy the tickets it takes you to another website called orbitz.com.

It seems just to be some sort of front end flight finder for orbitz.

Prices across the Atlantic seemed ok as did LHR - MOW.  However I looked at a couple of flights in Europe and it really didn't cope well at all.  In particular it couldn't find any direct flights at all from London to Tenerife.  It also misses out the discount arilines like Easyjet.

As Ste says above, there are plenty of other sites that, to my mind, do this better than hipmunk.

Another one for example, is kayak.  On there you can also look at a range of dates to see what is cheapest and they give a much wider range of airlines.

ps what I also like about Kayak is that you don't book with them but you are sent through directly to the airlines websites and book directly with the airline.  A bit like moneysupermarket etc do with car insurance etc

We've normally used http://www.skyscanner.net and often found Aeroflot's own site the best value ( for trips to Siberia ), but for Veta's last trip I called / emailed a firm advertising on Perviy Kanal ( international Europe 'flavour' ) who advertise on the Hotbird satellite version of this popular channel .

They came in FIFTY Euros cheaper ( nearly 10 % )  than any other source ...  They only deal in German and Russian - on the phone / email but they were prompt and efficient and one can BOOK on-line in English .

http://aviaru.de/en/

They are 'really' a German based Travel agent (KRIS REISEN) from FUERTH .. We'd use 'em again

I'd forgotten about them.  Yes, I've used aviaru.de before as well and found them to be very cheap for flights between the UK and Germany.

It was recommended to me by a German colleague who has used them for flights between Frankfurt and Moscow
