Guidance and Advise Needed - Belarus
« on: January 27, 2010, 07:25:11 AM »
Hi All - On the 16th january I got married in Belarus.  I am a UK citizen and my wife is Belorussian.  We are currently waiting for the British Embassy to issue her with her visa to come back to the UK.  However on return to the UK we were going to get married again.  In this case does anyone know if we still need to get Certificate of Approval even though we are married already?  Again and as always it seems tricky to find the info!

Many Thanks

Hi CT

Welcome

it seems to me you are legally married, already

So I 'm confused about marrying, again..

What sort of Visa status is your wife's application for?

I can understand having a 'blessing' , but as to marrying twice..?

Could you provide a little more clarification, please?! ;)

BTW: here's a link to a the UK foreign and Commonwealth Office re overseas marriages

Welcome CT

moby is right you can not get married again in the UK you are legally married in Belarus and so all you can do is a blessing  :)

No you do not need a certificate for the blessing just the Certified translated copy of your marriage certificate :)

Hi All

We applied for a settlement visa as she is now my wife.  As they say I am now the sponsor and not a husband!

Still not heard but it has only been just over a week. Frustratingly they wanted photos from us but when we initially attended the Embassy in Minsk they said we dont need them and took them out.  But they received them today. So fingers crossed its not much longer now.

We were going to have another ceremony of sorts in a church and I thought one could get married twice as my parents had done once in Vienna as my Dads Austrian and once in England.  Maybe crossed wires in my thinking...
