Title: Belarus' president says he doesn't want Russian air base
Post by: WestCoast on October 06, 2015, 01:00:10 PM
Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko has stated that he doesn't want a Russian air base in Belarus. Lukashenko said that he knows nothing about plans to set up a Russian air base in Belarus and added that his nation doesn't need it, according to state news agency Belta.

"I feel surprised and, to some extent, angry and annoyed by that," he said.

The Belarusian leader's statement follows Russian President Vladimir Putin's order to his government last month to sign an agreement on a Russian military base in Belarus. The two countries have close political, economic and military ties, and Belarus depends on Russian energy and other subsidies.

As we've seen in the last few weeks Putin has repeated that countries shouldn't force their ideologies on other countries (http://www.globalresearch.ca/vladimir-putins-speech-to-the-united-nations-security-council/5479334). So I'm assuming Russia won't be placing an air base in Belarus.

Bravo Westy....

Expect Belarus and ''Luka should go'' to be increasingly in the news as it is 'election' time coming up in Belarus

Here's some comments on the base from Charter97 - a long-term opposition site.
