Title: Parliamentary Poll: Cancel sanctions on Russia to increase trade post Brexit
Post by: Manny on July 07, 2016, 10:45:44 AM
So as some here like parliamentary petitions so much, I decided to start one.

Here is the full text:

Lift EU/US sanctions on Russia to increase trade now the UK is leaving the EU

As the UK has chosen to exit the EU, we will be no longer bound by US-influenced, EU sanctions on Russia. We should lift sanctions on Russia as an independent country to regain the millions of pounds of trade we have lost with Russia. We don't need to participate in EU/US sanctions against Russia.

The EU and the US introduced sanctions on Russia over the democratic decision of the people of Crimea to reunify with Russia and Russia's alleged backing of separatists in Eastern Ukraine. The UK had to participate in this as an EU member. Now the UK is leaving the EU, we need not be dictated to by it. Lost trade with Russia costs the UK many millions of pounds. This is trade that we are now at liberty to get back. Russia is a market of 140m consumers British business needs.

At 10,000 signatures, government will respond to this petition
At 100,000 signatures, this petition will be considered for debate in Parliament

If anyone wants to sign it, it can be found here: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/139739

So, like at a time when you are renewing trade agreements with major partners you take a swipe at the eagle and dance with the bear. It will be interesting to see how many more than the 16 current votes it gets.

These always take a little time to gather momentum.  :)

We need not beg for trade agreements; people are begging us already. We are the 5th biggest economy in the world. One that is currently ignoring a market of 140m people because it suits Uncle Sam and the EU. We didn't vote to leave the EU to kowtow to you lot. You lot can *choose* to be upset or trade with us on the basis of US-UK relationships; not ours with others. Wouldn't bother me either way. There is nothing produced in the US we buy that couldn't be replaced in a heartbeat.

The UK has no issue with Russia. We need not sing from the sheet of others. Time to forge our own path.

You can sign it if you like. You only need a UK postcode. SW1A 2AA is Downing Street.  :chuckle:

Up to a staggering 36 votes, now

If one views this map http://petitionmap.unboxedconsulting.com/?petition=139739 (http://petitionmap.unboxedconsulting.com/?petition=139739) I could reliably suggest most of the signatories  ;)

A curious thing I noticed, those channels whom I imagined would give it full media reach - who know about it - seem to be making a point of ignoring it.

This tells me that opinion from up the food chain in English language Russian media is they are quite happy with sanctions.

It is a very slow start I agree, but it hasn't yet been pushed to any degree on Russian social networks yet to appeal to the large UK resident population here. It has six months. We'll see. It has time to catch a virus yet.

You signed it Steve?

Maybe you should sell the masses on having Putin's Russia back in the G7. Harper made some excellent reasons why Russia should not be in the club. But I'm sure you'll disagree.

There are other forums where your Russophobia would be more welcomed.

I don't think Don is russophobic, I doubt that his thinking reaches that level of sophistication.

On this the one month anniversary we come together to celebrate the 40th signatory of the petition to cancel Russian sanctions. We now only need 9,960 more UK votes to get it read. Tell your friends, sign with their names for them. Dead people welcome.

You still want sanctions on Russia then?? :rolleye0009:

I'm sure I resonded, already... the answer is clear - your 'problem' in getting WHY lies with the overwhelming 'support'  for the petition....

PHYSICALLY interfering in a neighbour - one that you agreed to protect - one that gave up nukes in return for that protection - isnn't on...

They UN and it's charter wasn't around for the native Americans or the Mexicans at the time of the Alamo
