Title: Happy Orthodox Christmas!
Post by: leslied on January 07, 2018, 02:27:59 AM
Today is Christmas Day by the Orthodox calendar.  Last night there was a traditional Russian Table at our home.  For the first time in years it featured Beluga (black) caviar! Mobiles and internet were used to share our party with similar ones in Moscow, Kiev and of course Vinnitsia. Liters of Vodka was consumed  ;D

At 11.30pm (Russian time) we switched on channel 1 to see the midnight church service.  It was simulcast from Moscow and St. Pete.  Putin was standing on his own (no family) in the front row of the Moscow service.  Amid all that grandeur he appeared a small lonely figure merely going through the motions. Crossing himself when everyone else did but not really engaged in the service.  Surprisingly I saw no security agents.

It is lunch time now and as usual - no hangover.  The secret is to only drink Vodka !

Merry Christmas everyone.  Enjoy the day

Without fail, a "young pig" must be present from the meal on the festive table! :-*

First year we have missed as the night temperature is -23C feeling close to -40C and we are both somewhat under the weather too.  I expect even colder conditions were in effect along north eastern coasts of USA and Canada as we are well inland here in Toronto.  Today is still cold, but hopefully things will get back to normal soon.  This has set new all time low temperatures here since records were kept.

Merry Christmas to one and all.

He vanished from here for reasons unknown. Last post August 2018. He last logged in February 2019. He never replied emails or messages but still pops up on Skype occasionally.

Happy Orthodox Christmas to all.
