Perhaps a good example of why Ukraine needs adult supervision.

I am sure that Kuleba sees the case as a way to increase and protect his empire to a much greater degree than he thinks what happened was a terrible thing. For him it is an opportunity and one upon which he should capitalise.
Of course by capitalising upon this sad case he might succeed in increasing his empire and one can only hope that some of that increase goes to protect young kids from abuse of all kinds.

Ukraine is not paying it's public servants because it is broke...
Social workers come a long way behind essential public servants like the police, fire service, teachers etc.
Aid donations go to line politicians pockets not to provide front line services. Not much has changed since Kuchma was in power, except the general population is poorer now than it was 20 years ago...

Social workers as such are being paid, but the salaries have not risen by much since 2000. It is indeed a struggle though.
The general population is in fact richer than the time that L. Kuchma entered office but it is largely tied to the rise in value over this period in property. A bigger problem is the level of personal debt in Ukraine. What so many avoid or forget on RUA is there are multiple economies in Ukraine. The official one which is on IMF life support, the grey one which has taken hits in the last two years and the black one which chugs along rather nicely.

Well I would agree with you on the real estate point, Though under Kuchma most folk had homes with very low outgoings. Old people could afford heating and food. Now sadly for many old folk it is one or the other...
If you are involved in the black economy you are better off, though the heady days of the late 90's and noughties are long gone.
The grey economy is fooked. 26 Hrivna to the dollar! under Kuchma it was around 4.
People are paid with worthless paper now, little better than not being paid at all.
Older people I know personally look back on soviet times as a golden age. The basics of life were available to virtually everyone. Of course western goods were unavailable, even shoddy stuff had to be chased. Nowadays all the stuff anyone could desire is displayed in shop windows but few can afford it.

It's a sad case - the only bright spot being that Ukrainian society is able to express outrage about it.
This, and worse, sadly happens among the underclass in USA and we have become inured to it.

Can you blame them? Capitalism only works with rule of law: honest police, honest judges, honest politicians and Oligarchs who are not allowed or able to steal much of the IMF aid, etc.
These people are clearly in a bad spot. If there is a person to point the finger at I suspect the Soros monster after what he did to our country the past couple of years.
