Title: An American Tourists View of the UK
Post by: Manny on October 06, 2015, 10:45:16 AM
Scott Waters from Florida visited the UK for the fourth time a few weeks ago.

Staying with family and friends, the artist and photographer made his way to London, Oxford, Cornwall and Leicestershire taking in what the country has to offer visitors.

While some of his observations - like thinking Cornwall is a country and that "Black people are just people: they didn’t quite do slavery here" are not really that accurate - he got some other stuff spot on, namely:

Cake is one of the major food groups

The pubs close too early

The newspapers can be awful

Amen.

Scott's findings clearly struck a nerve with Anglophiles online, because his post has at time of writing been shared 76,000 times.

Speaking to BuzzFeed, Waters said that his favourite thing about the UK is Cornish pasties, and his least favourite thing is Birmingham.

I agree, but if you read the list at the link, there isn't much to disagree with.

Although it does seem he mingles with people who cant afford a tumble dryer and roll their own cigarettes.

I like this one:

he got some other stuff spot on,

Yes  ;D I enjoyed reading it, thanks for sharing  :)

I never stayed in small cities in your country, but most of what he writes i find correct about London too (re. pubs being community gathering places, closing too early, everyone being polite and so on.)  :)

They might do. The rest of us buy Silk Cut in the airport or make other arrangements.  :smokin:

I do not smoke but I usually take my sister 15 boxes of 200 back each time I return >:(  I buy them at the local supermarket where they are about £5 for 200 usually Marlboro or PallMall.
Will be taking a suitcase full back next month as were both in the UK for a few days, my sister smokes like a chimney so should keep her spluttering for a few more weeks :chuckle:

I do hope you will be declaring that  - I merely mention it as our leader, and a couple of others are feigning righteousness   :chuckle:

Of course I do not declare it!! Actually if they ever was to stop me I would have a few words to say to them about it! Its pretty disgusting actually you can work all your life in the UK pay your dues and they begrudge you having a few boxes of fags or a few bottles of wine extra! The limit should be trebled at least. Years ago I used to take home 10/15 bottle of Vodka packed into a few bags:) To much trouble and to heavy to be caring about at my young age now  :chuckle:

Manny, Marlboros are one of the most popular cigarettes in the world. As for boycotting the American cigs good luck with that. Smokers have to have their fix.
