Hate to say this, at my age of 46, eyesite is almost gone. Have specialist appointment lined up but damn scary.
-
Wow, I am saddened to read this. Of all my senses, my sight is my most valued, probably the same for most of us.
Is this a sudden thing or is it a slowly encroaching problem?
I have seen that there is a a recent crop of prosthetic aids for sight which are not a substitute for sight seem to be able to give the user a degree more independence and security than has been hitherto possible.
Chances are that you are already aware of these options, yes?

Tonton, ... Ugh. You are one of my favorite posters here. I am looking forward to reading every single post you make. I know that you are happily married and have two awesome daughters. I pray there is a solution for this situation. You are young, healthy and in a country with the most advanced medicine in the world. I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.

Thank you my friend! It is a scary thing, typing is hard on this damn iPad. New glasses are the key, the ones I wear are 4 years old

Having a disease that will only get worst with time is very scary and puts a lot of stress on you and the rest of your family.
May God give you and yours the strength to deal with all of this.

Ah ..So THAT explains your ignorant silence - you Bundaberg rum swilling, Aussie git - you couldn't read my messages ? :)
Try to see the upsides, mate ... You won't need to look at my ( or Don's ) ugly mugs on Skype ....:P
Until you know the cause, don't give up on a solution
Take care, mate

Do not panic, my friend.
You might developed a cataract.
Very easy surgery, brings back 100% of vision, and very cheap in Russia.
Or... you might just need to adjust to aging and order glasses for reading. :)
-
Get yourself down to the best eye doctor you can find. It is usually something treatable.
I wish you the best of luck, mate.
And ditch the ipad and get a big wide PC screen like I did a few years ago. Squinting at little screens cant help.

+1
I swear i thought the same, because my father had cataract. We have Russian eye clinic here in Monte and he got surgery there. All is well, thanks goodness! It is not cheap for us (compared to our own medicine which is free), but for those things one will always find money. Fingers crossed!

Yes, indeed!

Oh, so you don't know what the problem is yet, but you only have old specs?
I dunno about you but I found out that I can see much better when I have the right specs. ;)
I have cataracts forming and I know that with correction one's eyesight is made roughly similar to a young hawk. Sadly, for other reasons, cataract surgery is not an option for me. However, until you know what the problem is, if you don't have other, non-optical issues, then chances are that it is cataracts and with two 20 minute procedures you'll have better eyesight than you ever did.

That's terrible news, I hope and pray for the best!

tonton, what precisely is wrong with your eyes?

Maxx, completely blurred. Frustrates me as I am a reader of books daily. But off to eye specialist today.

That is a good thing about seeing an eye doctor. Can you see things far away but not close? At 47 you are a young man. You don't need this.
-
completely blurred.
It can be a side effect of some medications.
Do not forget to bring to your doctor a list of your meds and any supplements you take with dosages.

No meds are taken. I used to take pain killers after the hip replacements but completely drug free for some years. Thankfully, my artificial hip is pain free!

I hope it is not a neurological problem related to your multiple traumas in sport....

I hope not too. Plenty of rugby injuries in playing days.

How often do upsidedownians go to the optician for a check up?
Are you as scared of opticians as I am of dentists?

I do like how you refer to Australians as upsidedownians! No, not scared of anything which can make health better.

Is it true you dial 666 for the Australian Emergency Services?
-
So, how did you get on today?

I hope the eye doctor can help to restore your vision. Blurred vision can be a major hindrance on the daily life activities. I got a serious eye infection in one eye over ten years ago and the eye doctor told me that I could lose my vision completely in the eye. I took medication and eye drops and the infection eventually subsided, but it did leave some scarring. It happened to the eye with the better vision before the infection. I was extremely photophobic because of the infection inside the eye.

So, how did you get on today?
New glasses have worked a treat. Thank you for your concern mate.

I'm glad to hear that things are looking up.
With bad hips and eyes, I was afraid we were going
to have to take you out behind the barn and shoot you!
Spared a bullet there. ;D

You Drongo, Ton... too drunk to realise that all you need was new specs ? ))

Good one Popka, we need more laid back posters!
TonTon, Glad to hear things are better, but have you investigated or searched out as to the underlying reasons for your vision loss. There are a number of issues that you should check for. This exam should be done by an opthamologist.
For myself loss of vision would most likely mean borrowing a bullet from Popka. While I seem according to some to have become an evil troll as I get older, oddly my vision has changed according to my optometrist, I do not need to wear glasses for short or medium distance vision and have gone to steadily weaker corrective lenses for long distance. Go figure!
Look at it this way we would not want you to bump into the derriere of Kim K and believe it was Kim Jung Doodoo.

Tonton, I take it that henceforth you will diarise an annual visit to your optician?
I don't know how it is in Upsidedownland but, up here, in the UK at least, your optician will also be checking for illnesses related to eyesight or evidence of illness that is hidden in the eyes. I'd be making sure that my appointments were with one of those fine folks not just an eyesight measurer.
